Recalling the 60th anniversary of Woodstock, the 33rd annual Senior Games will be held June 18 at Carmichaels Junior Senior High School, 215 N. Vine Street, with the theme, “Peace, Love, Games.”

Hosted by Southwestern Pennsylvania Area Agency on Aging and co-sponsored by Blueprints, the event starts at 9:30 a.m. with the opening ceremony and parade of athletes. Games are from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“It is amazing how people are responding. They are ecstatic about the selection of this theme,” said Nancy Riggle, Area Agency on Aging Greene County supervisor. “People are remembering, talking about tie-dye, long hair, hippie clothes and flowers.”

The games are open to anyone age 50 and older who live in Fayette, Greene or Washington counties or are a member of a senior center within the service area.

Participants can compete in any of 11 different events: one-mile walk, 50-yard dash, basketball toss, bocce, corn bag toss, football throw, horseshoes, golf putting, shuffleboard, softball throw and stationary bike. There is a $1 registration fee for each event.

Deadline for registration is June 14. Forms are available at local senior centers as well as Area Agency on Aging offices in Fayette, Greene and Washington counties or by calling 888-300-2704.

Admission is free to the event, which includes super bingo, food booths, and health and wellness fair stations.

Athletes will receive their medals the day of the games but trophies for separate tournaments, which include such games as bowling, golf and dart baseball, as well as the grand traveling trophy, will be awarded at the Senior Games Victory Celebration and Awards Banquet at 5 p.m. June 27 at the Carmichaels Fire Hall.
