On the strength of 22 runs on 25 hits, California University swept a doubleheader over Wheeling Jesuit, 14-0 and 8-1, Tuesday at Wild Things Park.

In Game 1, freshman pitcher Tyler Bedillion, a South Fayette graduate, tossed a shutout for his first collegiate win. Bedillion threw a five-hitter and struck out seven. He has not allowed an earned run in 15 innings.
The Vulcans scored nine runs in the third inning. Ben Maudie led the offense, going 3-for-4, including a solo homer, plus two RBI and four runs. Nico Marchetti went 3-for-5 with four RBI and two runs.

The split moves W&J to 4-7 overall. Point Park is 11-9.
Indians sign Gonzalez
Free agent Carlos Gonzalez has signed a minor league contract with the Cleveland Indians, who just might have an outfield spot for the three-time All-Star.
Gonzalez could help the Indians settle their outfield situation, which became muddled following the club’s decision not to re-sign All-Star Michael Brantley and other moves.
The 33-year-old Gonzalez spent 10 seasons with Colorado and was one of the team’s best players and emotional leader.
In the NHL
Brendan Gallagher, Shea Weber and Max Domi scored goals, Carey Price stopped 32 shots and the Montreal Canadiens earned a 3-1 win over the fading Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night.
The Canadiens and Flyers are both chasing a wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. Montreal entered three points behind Columbus for eighth place in the East and the Flyers were six points out with 78.

Noel Acciari, Patrice Bergeron and Jake DeBrusk also had goals to help the Bruins win their second straight since a three-game skid that followed their 19-game point streak (15-0-4). Boston has won seven consecutive meetings between the teams – eight in a row in New York.
