The gold standard for area girls basketball teams was set this season by Peters Township. The Indians became the first girls team from Washington County to win a state championship when they rolled over Garnet Valley, 62-49, in the Class 6A title game Friday night at the Giant Center in Hershey. The victory capped a 30-0 season for Peters Township as the Indians became only the fourth team in WPIAL history to win a state championship with an undefeated record. Peters Township, under head coach Bert Kendall, won the WPIAL title March 2 with an overtime victory against North Allegheny.
