State police are investigating to determine what caused a structure fire that took the life of a woman in Point Marion early Thursday.
Emergency crews responded to the small home at 128 Greater Point Marion Road in Springhill Township a little after 4 a.m. Police have yet to release the name of the woman who was killed. Officials said they believe the woman is in her 70s.
A neighbor who didn’t want to be identified said her husband woke her up around 3:45 a.m. after he saw the fire, and called 911 to summon help.
“It was totally engulfed,” the neighbor said. “The flames were high up there. I’ve never seen a fire like that.”
The neighbor said she didn’t know the woman who died.
A fire marshal is investigating. The coroner’s office was called to the scene shortly after 5 a.m., and emergency responders worked to put out hotspots after the blaze was extinguished.
