High school softball roundup: Lindley, Bentworth upset Carmichaels; Trinity wins section title

Leah Lindley struck out 15 and allowed only one hit as Bentworth upended Carmichaels, 2-0, in a Section 3-AA game Wednesday.
Kaylie Anderson and Savannah Adams hit back-to-back, run-scoring doubles in the fifth inning for the Bearcats (4-6, 8-9), who took a big step to secure the fourth and final playoff berth in the section.
Kylie Sinn struck out 12 for the Mikes (7-4, 10-5).
Trinity 11, Moon 3: Trinity was an 11-3 winner at Moon. No game details were made available to the Observer-Reporter.
The win, combined with South Fayette’s victory over West Allegheny, clinched the Class 5A Section 3 championship for Trinity (9-1, 12-2), which has won seven in a row.
Belle Vernon 15, Carrick 0: Sophie Godzak threw a four-inning perfect game and Belle Vernon scored 12 run in the bottom of the fourth to beat visiting Carrick 15-0 in Class 4A Section 2.
Godzak struck out nine and did not issue a walk. She helped her own cause by hitting one of Belle Vernon’s four doubles.
Mekenzie Sokol led Belle Vernon (4-6, 6-11) at the plate with two doubles and two RBI. Jordan French doubled and drove in two. Ashley Joll, Vanessa Porter, Lindsay Steeber and Jayden Scapellato each had two RBI.
Carrick is winless at 0-11.
South Fayette 6, West Allegheny 5: Liv Goerdt hit a game-tying home run in the sixth inning and Ashley Micholas added a go-ahead RBI single as South Fayette rallied to beat West Allegheny 6-5 in Class 5A Section 3.
The win was the third straight for South Fayette (7-4, 10-6) and moved the Lions into a three-way tie for second place in the section.
Winning pitcher Mara Iagnemma scattered eight hits and held West Allegheny (7-4, 7-6) scoreless over the final three innings, when South Fayette mounted its comeback from a 5-4 deficit.
Lexi Yates had a double for the Lions. Maddie Reiker tripled for WA and Britney Wilson and Angela Costa each doubled.
West Greene 14-15, Avella 0-0: Two-time defending state champion West Greene ran its winning streak to 12 and clinched the Section 2-A title by sweeping a doubleheader from Avella, 14-0 and 15-0, each in three innings.
Madison Lampe had a big day at the plate for the Pioneers (9-0, 13-3), going 3-for-6 with a home run, double and five RBI. McKenna Lampe was 4-for-5, scored four times and had a triple and two doubles. Kaitlyn Rizor had a double in the opening game.
Avella (0-8, 0-11) was held to one hit in each game, both a Brianna Jenkins single.
Canon-McMillan 10, Baldwin 4: Taylor Eckles homered and drove in three runs to help Canon-McMillan down Baldwin, 10-4, in a Section 1 game in Class 6A.
Elli Kotar homered and knocked in two runs for the Big Macs (9-3, 10-4). Abby Allen had a double among her three hits and scored three runs. Elka Mowery went 2-for-4 and scored a run.
Cassandra Carlson went 4-for-4 with two doubles for Baldwin (9-3, 10-3).
Jefferson-Morgan 3, Mapletown 0: Cait Dugan struck out 10 and did not allow a run in Jefferson-Morgan’s 3-0 victory over Mapletown in Section 2-A.
Kyra Smitley drove in two runs for Jefferson-Morgan (7-2, 8-4). Jasmine Demaske added a double.
Kailey Stover doubled for Mapletown (4-3, 8-3).
Chartiers-Houston 9, Beth-Center 0: Ella Brookman allowed three hits and struck out six to help Chartiers-Houston to a 9-0 win over Beth-Center in a Section 3-AA game.
Kaci Alderson and Lauren Lober each drove in two runs for Chartiers-Houston (9-1, 13-3). Kasey Scears, Karlyn Bayer, Brookman and Lober each hit a double.
B-C fell to 0-11 and 1-11.
McGuffey 5, Charleroi 3: McGuffey forged an early three-run lead and held off Charleroi for a 5-3 victory in Class 2A Section 3.
The win moves McGuffey into a tie with Charleroi in the section with both teams at 4-7. The Highlanders are 4-8 overall and Charleroi is 6-8.
Kaitlyn Muncie was 3-for-4 and drove in three runs for McGuffey. Rachel Shingle had two RBI.
Charleroi’s Jocelyn Polonoli was 2-for-3 with a triple.
Monessen 16, California 1: Monessen won its third straight, 16-1 over California in a Section 2-A game.
The playoff-bound Greyhounds improved to 4-5 in the section and 4-8 overall. California is 1-8, 2-13.
South Allegheny 10, Waynesburg 0: South Allegheny kept its Class 3A Section 3 title hopes alive with a 10-0 victory in five innings over visiting Waynesburg.
Sydney Kirkwood and Elisa Kirkwood each homered for South Allegheny (7-2, 13-2) and Cortney Woytovich threw a five-hit shutout.
Erin Fitch went 3-for-3 for Waynesburg (3-6, 6-7), which was eliminated from playoff contention.
