While I love spring, I really love the transformation that Canonsburg undergoes when the weather warms up. The windows at Rusty Gold Brewing open, making it feel like you are enjoying your craft beer al fresco. The landscaping in front of the Borough Building transforms with beautiful flowers (thank you All-Clad, for once again sponsoring the Pike Street Beautification Project). More people are outside, walking their dogs or going for a run. And, since Iceburg’s is finally open again after a long winter, crowds form at the corner of Pike Street and Jefferson Avenue.

Canonsburg really comes alive in the spring. And thanks to our dedicated elected officials and organizations like the Greater Canonsburg Chamber of Commerce, which works to bring events like the Canonsburg Farmers Market and Oktoberfest, there are even more reasons to get outside and enjoy our town.

One of the selling points for my family when we purchased our home was its walkable proximity to Town Park. Our son loves going to the playgrounds and even just walking along the little stream. Even if it’s not walkable from your home, I urge you to head over to check it out. Whether or not you have children, the park is an incredible asset to our community – especially once the pool opens! And, while we are on the theme of beautification, the Town Park Board and the Friends of the Park (the differences between the two are explained in Town Park Talk on page 28), both work tirelessly to make improvements and upgrades to the park.

But back to my point about Iceburg’s – if you love ice cream (and really, who doesn’t?), you need to read our cover story on page 12. Writer Kristin Emery did some research and asked important questions (best sundae on the menu, for example) to each of the area’s frozen confectioneries. Whether you are a fan of hard cap, custard or soft serve, there is a local, perhaps even walkable, option for you. Confession: my husband goes to Lovie’s a few times a week, and they pretty much know our order there (it rarely changes). All of those extra calories mean more family walks with our dog. But I’m not complaining, and I know the dog isn’t, either.

A friendly reminder – if you have a story idea, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me. I’ve heard from a few readers, and I thank you for your suggestions and feedback! My email is kgreen@observer-reporter.net and my direct dial is 724.229.2741.
