Naman Alemada passed two two touchdowns, Andrew Franklin ran for two scores and South Fayette’s defense delivered a shutout as the Lions overwhelmed West Mifflin 52-0 Friday night in the first round of the WPIAL Class 4A playoffs.

Second-seeded South Fayette (10-1) will play third-seeded Belle Vernon (9-1) in the semifinals next week.

Alemada completed nine of 13 passes for 170 yards, including touchdowns of 25 yards to Ryan McGuire and 47 yards to Joseph Audia. McGuire had three receptions for 84 yards.

Franklin, who rushed for 138 yards on 14 carries, had a 16-yard TD run in the first quarter that made it 10-0 and added a one-yard plunge that gave the Lions a 38-0 edge at halftime.

Zack Blank and Henry Lex had one-yard TD runs for the Lions and Justin Caputo opened the scoring with a 21-yard field goal. Tyrell Ogeltree rushed for 130 yards on 30 carries for West Mifflin (6-5).

Cornell 32, California 27

Savon Wilson’s 27-yard touchdown run midway through the fourth quarter gave Cornell a 32-27 victory over California in a Class A first-round game played at West Allegheny High School.

It is the first playoff victory in Cornell’s history. The Raiders (9-1) will play top-seeded Clairton in the semifinals.

Wilson’s TD run came only 33 seconds after California’s Lucas Qualk ran 36 yards for a score and Jimmy Lallier’s extra-point kick gave the Trojans a 27-26 lead.

The game was close throughout. Cornell led 20-12 at halftime and 26-20 after three quarters. California lost quarterback Cochise Ryan to an injury during the game. Ryan opened the scoring with a one-yard TD run.

Cornell quarterback Zaier Harrison threw for two scores and ran 13 yards for a touchdown. Ameer Hibbler had a 22-yard TD run and caught a 12-yard scoring pass.

Qualk had two scoring runs for California (7-4) and Jaeden Zuzak added an 18-yard TD jaunt.

North Allegheny 48, Canon-McMillan 7

Ben Petschke completed completed six of 11 passes for 140 yards and four touchdowns, and also ran for a score as North Allegheny took advantage of a fast start and defeated Canon-McMillan 48-7 in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs Friday night.

North Allegheny (10-1) led 27-0 in the first eight minutes as the Tigers after Canon-McMillan lost fumbles each of the first two times it touched the football.

Petschke opened the scoring with a one-yard TD run, then threw scoring passes of 14 yards to Luke Colella, and three, 76 and 15 yards to Khalil Dinkins. Dinkins caught four passes for 105 yards.

Isaiah William Chandler scored on a two-yard run for Canon-McMillan (3-8) in the third quarter. The Big Macs’ Ryan Angott rushed for 87 yards on six carries.

Freedom 21, Charleroi 14

Cole Beck threw a tiebreaking one-yard TD pass to tight end Noah Valles in the third quarter and the Freedom defense held Charleroi to negative yardage in the second half as the Bulldogs won 21-14 in a Class 2A first-round game.

Legend Davis scored both touchdown for Charleroi (7-3), on a 76-yard pass from Alex Conrad to open the scoring and an 82-yard kickoff return in the second quarter that made it 14-14.

Freedom (8-3) held Charleroi to minus-9 yards total offense in the second half.
