In the NFL

The Patriots have done a lot of shuffling at receiver this season.

They are hoping Mohamed Sanu can provide some stability as they try to solidify their offense heading into a difficult part of their schedule.

The Patriots traded a second-round draft pick in 2020 to the Atlanta Falcons for the eighth-year veteran, the teams announced Tuesday.

The trade came less than 24 hours after the Patriots blew out the New York Jets 33-0.

For New England, Sanu represents its latest attempt to give Brady another versatile receiver to throw to following the short-lived tenure of Antonio Brown.

The 30-year-old Sanu has 33 receptions for 313 yards, but only one touchdown so far this season.

  • Emmanuel Sanders arrived in what he called “wide receiver heaven” in 2014 and with Peyton Manning throwing him passes, he certainly found bliss in Denver, where he became a champion and a bona fide NFL star.

On Tuesday, he escaped what had become wide receiver purgatory when the Broncos (2-5) traded him to the unbeaten San Francisco 49ers (6-0), where he’ll catch passes from rising star Jimmy Garoppolo.

Along with Sanders, the Broncos sent a fifth-round pick in next year’s draft to the 49ers in exchange for third- and fourth-round picks in 2020, a person with knowledge of the deal told the Associated Press.

Sanders caught 30 passes for 367 yards and two touchdowns this season as he made a successful return from surgery on both ankles.

  • The Seattle Seahawks addressed depth concerns in the defensive backfield by acquiring Quandre Diggs from the Detroit Lions in exchange for a 2020 fifth-round pick.

WVU’s 2020 football schedule released

West Virginia will open the 2020 football season in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game against Florida State and have three home games in September.

The Big 12 released the Mountaineers’ schedule Tuesday. West Virginia will play the Seminoles on Sept. 5 in Atlanta.

The Mountaineers also have home nonconference games against Eastern Kentucky Sept. 12 and against Maryland Sept. 19.

West Virginia has Big 12 games at home against Kansas State Sept. 26, TCU Oct. 10, Kansas Oct. 24, Oklahoma Nov. 7 and Baylor Nov. 21.

Road conference games are at Texas Tech, Texas, Oklahoma State and Iowa State.
