Chickillo placed on exempt list
Three days after he was charged in an alleged domestic incident with his girlfriend, Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker Anthony Chickillo was placed by the NFL on the reserve/commissioner exempt list.
While on the list, Chickillo will not be permitted to attend practices or games, but he is allowed to be at the Steelers’ facility for individual workouts, meetings, therapy, rehab, and other non-football activities – if allowed by the organization. He will also continue to receive a normal paycheck and benefits.
While on the exempt list, Chickillo cannot practice or attend games, but he is allowed to be at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex for meetings, therapy and other nonfootball activities. Until the NFL makes a disciplinary decision, Chickillo will continue to receive his salary and remains eligible for all benefits per the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement.
Chickillo was arrested early Sunday morning and charged with simple assault and criminal mischief, both misdemeanors, and harassment, a summary offense, after a dispute with his girlfriend at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort.
Men’s soccer
Alvaro Viadas and Dylan Mayanja both scored in the first 30 minutes as Washington & Jefferson defeated Thiel, 2-1, in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference match.
It is the fourth consecutive PAC win for W&J (4-0-1, 7-7-2). The victory puts the Presidents in sole possession of second place, trailing Westminster by one point.
Gordon placed on IR
The Patriots have placed receiver Josh Gordon on injured reserve with knee and ankle injuries.
Gordon suffered the injuries during New England’s win over the Giants in Week 6 and sat out Monday night’s win over the Jets. He did not participate when the Patriots returned to the practice field on Wednesday.
Gordon’s absence will mean the Patriots will now be leaning even more on veteran Mohamed Sanu, acquired in a trade with Atlanta on Tuesday.
The Patriots traded a second-round draft pick in 2020 to the Falcons. The 30-year-old Sanu has 33 receptions for 313 yards, but only one touchdown so far this season.
Gordon was among New England’s leading receivers this season. In six games he has 20 catches for 287 yards and a touchdown.
