The wind picked up over the final nine holes in the sixth round of the LPGA Q Series at Pinehurst No. 9 Thursday, leading Rachel Rohanna to drop a couple strokes.
But, the Waynesburg Central graduate still managed to gain a stroke to par with a 1-under 71 and advance to the seventh round with a six-day total of 1-over 429. The low 80 scores and ties advanced through to the final two rounds.
Rohanna pulled to even for the tournament after a pair of birdies on the front nine, and moved to 1-under after making the turn with a birdie. Three consecutive pars followed, but dealing with the wind led to bogeys on Nos. 14 and 17.
Rohanna played the back in 1-over 37.
“It got very windy on the back nine,” said Rohanna. “It was mostly some distance issues, which led into some trust issues with approach shots, but, overall, I think I handled it pretty well. My putting has been really good.”
Rohanna still has her sights set on a top-20 finish. The top-20 are sitting at 4-under with 36 holes to play.
“Yes, for sure!,” Rohanna emphatically responded when asked about a top-20 finish.
Rohanna said she doesn’t feel the need to press or take risks.
“No, pressing usually doesn’t work with this much golf left. I know I’m playing well enough to climb right up there so just gonna stick to the game plan,” said Rohanna.
