Pitt defense takes another hit

Pitt junior defensive tackle Keyshon Camp will undergo season-ending surgery after sustaining a knee injury in the Virginia opener, head coach Pat Narduzzi announced.

“We are really heartbroken for Keyshon,” Narduzzi said. “He put a tremendous amount of work in during the offseason and was outstanding against Virginia before he got hurt. Keyshon is a strong young man, though, and I know he won’t let this adversity sidetrack him.”

This is the second time in a month that Pitt lost a major player on its defensive line due to injury. Junior defensive end Rashad Weaver sustained a season-ending knee injury early in training camp.

Player: Dismissal due to dreadlocks

An Arkansas university is investigating allegations that a men’s basketball player was dismissed because the coach disapproved of his dreadlocks.

Tyler Williams alleges he was dismissed from the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith’s basketball team last month after head coach Jim Boone criticized his hairstyle.

A complaint filed by Williams alleges Boone’s action amounts to “racism and bias.” Chancellor Terisa Riley confirmed in an email Tuesday the school is investigating but officials say Boone remains the men’s basketball coach.

Williams, a 22-year-old guard and honor roll student who played high school basketball in Oklahoma, has transferred to a college in the Oklahoma City area.
