High school football roundup: PT stays unbeaten, blanks Woodland Hills

Logan Pfeuffer threw four touchdown passes, including three in the first half, and Peters Township shut out Woodland Hills for the second year in a row, 26-0, Friday in a Class 5A Allegheny Eight Conference game.
The first score for PT (1-0, 3-0) was set up when Ryan Magiske recovered a fumble in the first quarter at the Woodland Hills 32. Pfeuffer then found Cordan Hondru wide open in the left corner of the end zone for a 6-0 lead.
Pfeuffer threw two touchdown passes to Josh Casilli in the second quarter. They covered 15 and five yards.
After a scoreless third quarter, PT’s Lucas Culan got behind the Woodland Hills secondary for a 45-yard scoring pass with 7:48 remaining, sealing the victory.
Woodland Hills (0-2, 0-3) got isnide the Indians’ 10-yard line in the fourth quarter but turned the ball over on downs.
McGuffey 55, Frazier 20
Marshall Whipkey passed for two touchdowns and Jared Johnson accounted for two as McGuffey routed Frazier, 55-20, in an Interstate Conference game in Class AA Friday night.
Whipkey completed 6 of 7 passes for 115 yards and hit Johnson and C.J. Cole for touchdowns. Nate Yagle opened the scoring on a 50-yard interception return and later scored on a 1-yard run for the Highlanders (1-0, 3-0). Jeremiah Johnson, Jordan Wallace and McKinley Whipkey also scored.
Shawn Fordyce had two TDs for Frazier (0-2, 0-3).
Burgettstown 42, Fort Cherry 0
Cyle Conley scored three rushing touchdowns and Burgettstown’s defense was overwhelming in a 42-0 victory over Fort Cherry in a Three Rivers Conference game Friday night.
Conley scored on runs of 48, 1 and 1 yards for the Blue Devils (2-0, 2-0). Jake Lounder and Shane Kemper also had rushing touchdowns to help BHS to a 28-0 lead at halftime.
Conley had 106 yards on 11 carries. Cole Shergi had an interception. Burgettstown held FC to 36 total yards.
Waynesburg 37, Ambridge 8
Trevor Stephenson ran for two touchdowns and threw for another, Avery McConville caught a pair of third-quarter scoring passes and Waynesburg scored 37 unanswered points to beat Ambridge 37-8 in a nonconference game.
Ambridge (0-3) took an 8-0 lead in the first quarter, but a safety and Darnell Johnson’s one-yard TD run gave Waynesburg (2-1) a 9-8 lead at halftime
McConville caught scoring passes from Johnson and Stephenson in the third quarter to push the Raiders’ lead to 23-8. Stephenson finished the scoring with TD runs of 15 and 55 yards.
California 48, Avella 0
Malik Ramsey caught three touchdown passes from Cochise Ryan to help California down Avella, 48-0, Friday night in a Class A Tri-County South Conference game.
The two connected from 37, 37 and 16 yards for the Trojans (2-0, 3-0). Ryan also ran one in from 54 yards. Lucas Qualk scored on a 12-yard run and caught a 27-yarder for Ryan’s fourth TD.
Avella fell to 0-1 and 1-2.
Jefferson-Morgan 42, Mapletown 0
Jefferson-Morgan had six touchdowns by six different players and the Rockets rolled to a 42-0 victory over Mapletown at Parker Field.
Jonathan Wolfe rushed for 142 yards on 11 carries and Liam Ankrom added 100 on 15 attempts for the Rockets (1-1, 1-2). Each ran for a touchdown.
Cole Jones threw TD passes of five yards to Colt Fowler and 20 yards to Tyler Kniha. Jones was 7 of 14 for 119 yards.
Mapletown (0-1, 1-2) lost both running backs Zach Greene and Landan Stevenson to injuries in the first half. The duo had combined for more than 500 rushing yards in the Maples’ first two games.
Southmoreland 48, Carmichaels 25
Southmoreland continued its hot start to the season by getting three touchdown runs from Colt Harper and four scores from Zach Cernuto to beat Carmichaels 48-25 in an Interstate Conference game at Russ Grimm Field.
Harper ran for TDs of two, 25 and 20 yards. Cernuto threw three TD passes, including two to Riley Comforti, and ran for another score.
Kevin Kelly had TD runs of 14 and one yards for Carmichaels, Bailey Jones had a 20-yard score and Michael Robinson botted a 21-yard field goals. The Mikes trailed 20-17 at halftime but were outscored 14-0 in the pivotal third quarter.
Cornell 62, Bentworth 9
Zaire Harrison accounted for seven touchdowns as Cornell blew past Bentworth, 62-9, in a nonconference game.
Harrison completed 9 of 16 passes for 274 yards and 5 touchdowns and rushed for 119 yard on eight carries and scored two more TDs for Cornell (2-0).
Owen Petrisek scored a touchdown and Trevor Richardson kicked a 43-yard field goal for the Bearcats (0-3).
Charleroi 56, Riverview 0
Charleroi won its first game of the season, and in impressive fashion, 56-0, over visiting Riverview in a nonconference contest.
Alex Conrado threw for first-half scores and ran for another, Bryaden Mihalcen ran for three second-half touchdowns and Nikko Pellegirini added two TD runs in the fourth quarter for the Cougars (1-1).
Riverview is 0-2.
In other games
Indiana pulled away late to beat Ringgold 28-13 in the Class 4A Big Eight Conference. Springdale was a 28-7 winner over Monessen in nonconference play. Brownsville held off a second-half comeback and defeated host Beth-Center 27-26 in the Class 2A Interstate Conference. No game details were made available by press time.
