Big Ben has elbow surgey

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger had surgery to repair his right elbow Monday.

Team spokesman Burt Lauten said Roethlisberger underwent the procedure at Cedars-Sinai Kerlan Jobe Orthopedic Clinic in Los Angeles. The surgery was performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache in consultation with team physician Dr. Jim Bradley.

Roethlisberger will begin rehabilitation when he returns to Pittsburgh and plans to return to the field in 2020.

Lawmakers disagree over W.Va. racingA bill expected to be introduced during the 2020 legislative session could end greyhound racing in West Virginia.

News outlets report Republican Senate President Mitch Carmichael released an opinion piece Tuesday calling for an end to the practice. He’s now facing opposition from some state delegates.

The Parkersburg News and Sentinel reports the casinos make video lottery payments of about $15 million each year to the West Virginia Lottery Commission. The lottery commission transfers the money into purse accounts at the casinos and the racing commission.

Carmichael says the money subsidizes the greyhound industry, but could be better invested in roads and education.

Antonio Brown going back to school

Central Michigan University spokeswoman Heather Smith said Monday that Antonio Brown began taking online courses last week, adding he is not attending classes on campus.

Brown played for the Chippewas from 2007 to 2009 before Pittsburgh drafted him in 2010. In March, the Steelers traded the four-time Pro Bowl receiver to Oakland, which released him before he played in a game. New England gave Brown another chance, but it did not last long; the team cut him last week after one game.

Days after the Patriots signed him, a former trainer filed a civil lawsuit in Florida accusing Brown of rape.
