High school football roundup: Ringgold wins on Rosensteel’s last-play field goal

Clay Rosensteel kicked a 27-yard field goal as time expired to give Ringgold a 16-13 victory over Beaver in a non-conference game Friday night at Joe Montana Stadium.

It was the first win for Ringgold (1-5) in 721 days, on Oct. 6, 2017 at Uniontown. It also was the initial win for first-year Ringgold coach Darwin Manges.

Beaver led 13-7 after three quarters but a one-yard run by Jacob Duncan tied the score with 10:36 remaining. James Minnie opened the scoring with a six-yard TD run for Ringgold.

Ringgold’s defense held Beaver (1-5) to only four first down and 94 total yards.

Washington 64, Frazier 7

Zack Swartz passed for three touchdowns and ran for two scores as Washington remained undefeated with an easy 64-7 victory over winless Frazier in an Interstate Conference game at Wash High Stadium.

The Prexies (3-0, 6-0) led 14-0 after one quarter as Swartz scored on runs of six and one yards, then the Prexies broke open the game with a 35-point second quarter.

Sheliek Cox had two touchdown runs, of 24 and six yards, and recorded a sack that resulted in a safety. Zahmere Robinson caught a 22-yard TD pass from Swartz and returned an interception 44 yards for a score.

Swartz had touchdown passes of 36 yards to Brandon Patterson and 30 yards to Caleb Jackson. Swartz completed nine of 10 passes for 129 yards.

Frazier (0-4, 0-6) scored in the fourth quarter on a four-yard run by Brayden Baccino.

Trinity 35, Indiana 15

Micah Finley scored three touchdowns to help Trinity stop Indiana, 35-15, in a Class 4A Big Eight Conference game.

Finley scored on runs of 55, 45 and 2 yards for the Hillers (2-3, 2-3). Marquese Lacks caught a touchdown pass from Jax Banco and scored on a 13-yard run. Trinity’s defense produced eight fumbles.

Indiana fell to 1-4 and 1-5.

West Greene 55, Avella 0

Ben Jackson had five rushes for 216 yards and scored on each run in undefeated West Greene’s 55-0 rout of Avella in a Class A Tri-County South Conference game.

Jackson scored on runs of 57, 33, 56, 17 and 53 yards for West Greene (5-0, 6-0). Jackson had three other touchdown runs called back because of penalties. West Greene had 12 penalties for 115 yards. Kolin Walker, Cory Wise and Nate Orndoff also scored.

Avella fell to 0-3 and 1-5.

South Fayette 27, Blackhawk 14

Naman Alemada passed for 340 yards and four touchdowns as South Fayette overcame Blackhawk, 27-14, in a Class 4A Northwest Eight Conference game.

Alemada hit four different receivers for scores and Shay Aitken ran one in from 12 yards for the Lions (3-0, 5-1). Aitken rushed for 145 yards on 23 carries. Ryan McGuire caught 7 passes for 117 yards, including a 12-yard touchdown.

Marquese Watson-Trent had two interception returns for touchdowns for Blackhawk (3-2, 3-2).

Belle Vernon 43, Greensburg Salem 3

Jared Hartman had a hand in four touchdowns as Belle Vernon rolled to a 43-3 victory over Greensburg Salem in a Class 4A Big Eight Conference game.

Hartman completed 12 of 17 passes for 250 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for a score. Larry Callaway rushed for 111 yards on 16 carries and scored two TDs for Belle Vernon (3-1, 4-1).

Wyatt Ramer’s field goal was the only score for Greensburg Salem (2-1, 2-4).

Chartiers-Houston 42, Mapletown 8

Six different Chartiers-Houston players ran for touchdowns as the Bucs cruised to a 42-8 victory over Mapletown in the Tri-County South Conference.

Chartiers-Houston (3-1, 4-2) forged leads of 21-0 after one quarter and 35-0 at halftime. The Bucs had 406 rushing yards.

Sam DeWalt got C-H going with a 69-yard touchdown run for the first score of the game. DeWalt had a game-high 117 yards on only three carries.

Colton Craig scored on a 60-yard run and Nathan Cavallo had a 31-yard scamper, each in the first quarter. Tyler Blumen went 17 yards in the second quarter and Shawn Wheeler’s 13-yard jaunt was the Bucs’ final score of the first half.

Tayvian Miller capped C-H’s scoring with a 15-yard run.

Landan Stevenson led the Maples (0-4, 1-5) with 73 rushing yards on 12 carries, including a 15-yard touchdown as time expired.

Seton LaSalle 14, Fort Cherry 0

Seton LaSalle made two second quarters stand for a 14-0 victory over Fort Cherry in a Class 2A Three Rivers Conference game.

Gabe Finale opened the scoring with a 2-yard run for the Rebels (1-3, 1-4). Fort Cherry was about to answer when Alex Shanessy returned an interception 82 yards for a touchdown and a 14-0 lead.

Fort Cherry (0-5, 0-6) rushed for 17 yards on 21 carries and had 16 total yards. Dylan Rogers made 13 tackles.

East Allegheny 53, Carmichaels 22

Tyler Padezan ran for two touchdowns and caught two scoring passes, powering East Allegheny to a 53-22 victory over host Carmichaels in a non-conference game.

Padezan caught a 79-yard touchdown pass from J.D. DiNapoli in the game’s first minute and Kion Delts scored on a 31-yard pass from DiNapoli to give the Wildcats (4-2) a quick 12-0 lead.

After Padezan scored on a five-yard run in second quarter, Carmichaels quarterback Kevin Kelly ran 53 yards for a score. Trenton Carter’s conversion pass to Michael Stewart cut EA’s lead to 19-8.

The momentum didn’t last for the Mikes as Padezan caught another touchdown pass and East Allegheny pushed its lead to 33-8 at halftime and 47-8 after three quarters.

Hunter Voithofer and Payton Schooley had TD runs for Carmichaels (1-4) in the fourth quarter.

In other games

Charleroi was a 27-8 winner over visiting Beth-Center in the Interstate Conference game and Monessen routed Bentworth 60-3 in the Tri-County South Conference. No game details were made available to the Observer-Reporter by press time.
