Pony Series wins Regional Sports Emmy
The Pony League World Series won a Regional Sports Production Emmy, it was announced Saturday at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Emmy Awards gala in Pittsburgh. Other finalists in the category included Pittsburgh Penguins NHL playoff hockey on AT&T SportsNet, Philadelphia Phillies baseball on NBC Sports Philadelphia, and Philadelphia 76ers basketball on NBC Sports Philadelphia.
The Emmy was for the championship game of the 2018 Pony League World Series that aired live on AT&T SportsNet Pittsburgh. The game, featuring Chinese Taipei against Long Beach, Calif., on Aug. 15, 2018, was selected under the live sports category by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Mid-Atlantic Chapter.
The Emmy was for excellence in television and emerging media production. The game was produced by Pikewood Sports, a division of West Virginia Radio Corporation.
Rivers Casino opens new sportsbook
Rivers Casino is betting that its new $5 million sportsbook will be more popular than its predecessor.
Rivers’ new sportsbook is called, “BetRivers Sportsbook.” It opened Monday.
BetRivers Sportsbook is at the heart of the casino’s gaming floor action, in the space previously occupied by Levels Lounge. It has table seating for approximately 195 guests, who will have views of the two LED central monitors and 24 flat-screen 86-inch monitors. The Sportsbook also includes 33 self-service betting kiosks and six betting windows.
It will be open daily: Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to midnight; Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m.; Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 a.m.; and Sundays from 9 a.m. to midnight.
Girls soccer
Belle Vernon took another step to another perfect section record and a Section 2-AAA title by defeating second-place Ringgold, 4-0, Monday night.
Jillian Butchki had a pair of first-half goals before scoring her third in the second half for the hat trick to lead Belle Vernon (8-0, 9-2). Farrah Reader had a pair of assists for the Leopards.
Ringgold (5-3, 6-6) had its two-game winning streak snapped.
- Four different players scored goals, powering South Fayette to a 4-0 home victory over Waynesburg in a non-section match.
Julianna Ruzza, Anna Hertzler and Annalisa Mariano each scored in the final 14 minutes of the first half to give South Fayette (7-3) a commanding lead. Amy Allen had the only goal of the second half.
Waynesburg (5-5) was shut out for the first time all season.
- Courtney Dahlquist scored three goals, leading the offensive onslaught as Trinity rolled over winless Woodland Hills 13-1 in Section 3-AAA.
Alyssa Clutter, Hannah Abbondanza, Nina King and Courtney Lowe each scored two times for the Hillers (4-3-1, 5-4-1). Olivia Mauro and Carys Miller also had goals as Trinity won its third in a row.
- Keely Acor made 13 saves to lead Chartiers-Houston to a 2-0 shutout victory over Charleroi in Section 2-A.
Lexi Durkacs and Kayden Buckingham each scored for C-H (7-1, 8-5), which has won three of its last four.
- Upper St. Clair scored a goal in each half and held off visiting Peters Township 2-1 in Section 2-AAAA.
USC (6-3, 7-4) led 1-0 at the half and made it a two-goal game with 11:38 remaining. A little more than a minute later, PT’s Hannah Stuck scored on a penalty kick but the Indians (8-1-1, 10-1-1) were unable to get the tying tally.
- Chloe Kuminkoski scored midway through the second half as Moon edged Canon-McMillan, 1-0, in Section 2-AAAA.
The win for Moon (9-0-1) and Peters Township’s loss puts the Tigers alone in first place.
Loser of two of its last three, Canon-McMillan (5-4, 8-4) is in fourth place.
