1955 – Washington gets a one-hit shutout from Fred (Reggie) Bolden and defeats Butler 15-0 to win the best-of-3 Region 2 championship and clinches a berth in the Pony League World Series. Washington has a 15-hit attack, including three by Bill Klinzing.
1961 – Don DiNardo is appointed head football coach and Steve Telleck head basketball coach at Bentleyville-Ellsworth Area Joint High School. DiNardo had been an assistant for two years at Ellsworth, and Telleck was the head coach at Bentleyville.
1966 – John (Buzz) Walters is hired as West Greene High School’s football coach, replacing Fred Answine, who accepted the coaching position at Penn Joint School.
1966 – The Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds combine for 11 home runs in a game at Crosley Field, but Manny Mota’s two-run single is the deciding hit in the Pirates’ 14-11 victory.
1967 – Romulus Hanover, with driver Billy Haughton, wins the first Adios Pace before a crowd of 5,552 at The Meadows. Romulos Hanover wins the final in 2:03.
1971 – Jerry Chambers, who guided Trinity’s junior high wrestling program to a record 39 consecutive victories, is hired as the Hillers’ varsity coach, succeeding Joe Shook, who resigned a month earlier.
1972 – Strike Out and Jay Time each finish in 1:59.2 for one of the few dead heats in harness racing stakes history and are declared co-champions of the 6th Adios at The Meadows.
1974 – Canon-McMillan hires Bob Schmidt as its head wrestling coach.
1989 – Racing two heats for the second time in eight days, Goalie Jeff moves to the front early in the final and wins The Adios.
1995 – John Campbell drives his fourth consecutive Adios winner as David’s Pass wins in 1:51.4.
2000 – Riverboat King, sitting in the three-hole for much of the race, makes his move coming off the final turn and wins The Adios. Riverboat King pulled even with heavy favorite Ain’t No Stopn Him with 100 yards to go.
