Marco Gonzales retired 21 consecutive Angels while throwing a four-hitter, and Jose Marmolejos hit a tiebreaking homer in the sixth inning of the Seattle Mariners’ 2-1 victory over Los Angeles on Monday.

Gonzales (4-2) had eight strikeouts and didn’t walk a batter until the ninth inning of his second career complete game. The left-hander said he felt an uncommon determination after a tumultuous week in which the Mariners elected to skip a game in San Diego to protest the shooting of Jacob Blake.

Baltimore 4, Toronto 3: José Iglesias and Bryan Holaday had RBI doubles in the 11th inning for Baltimore, and Iglesias threw out the potential tying run at home plate as the Orioles salvaged a 4-3 win against the Toronto Blue Jays to break a five-game losing streak.

Iglesias’ leadoff hit, to deep left-center field, scored Anthony Santander, who started the inning at second base. Holaday then doubled to right field to drive in Iglesias. Both hits came off Toronto reliever Anthony Bass (2-2).

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. had an RBI single in the 11th to draw Toronto closer but was thrown out at the plate trying to score on a Rowdy Tellez hit. Right fielder Santander missed the cutoff man, but Iglesias ranged over from his shortstop position to deliver the relay from near the right field line.

Two A’s games postponed: The first two games of Oakland’s series at Seattle have been postponed to allow for additional testing and contact tracing after a member of the Athletics’ organization tested positive for the coronavirus.

The positive test already caused the postponement of Oakland’s game Sunday against the Houston Astros. Now games against the Mariners on Tuesday and Wednesday are being put off. The A’s are also scheduled to play at Seattle on Thursday.

Major League Baseball said Monday it will continue to provide updates as necessary.

On Sunday, the A’s said they would self-isolate in Houston. There were no details provided on whether the positive result came from a player or someone else.

National League

Miami 5, N.Y. Mets 3: Miguel Rojas hit a tiebreaking RBI single during Miami’s four-run sixth inning against Jacob deGrom, and the Marlins beat the New York Mets 5-3.

Garrett Cooper and Brian Anderson homered for Miami, which had dropped four in a row prior to traveling to New York for the makeup of a game postponed last Thursday, when the Mets and Marlins took the field for 42 seconds of silence before walking off in a protest of racial injustice.

Dodgers set NL record: The Los Angeles Dodgers set the National League record for home runs in a month with their 57th in their final game of August on Sunday.

Cody Bellinger’s two-run homer in the third inning was the third of the game at Texas, breaking the previous record of 56 set by the Atlanta Braves in June 2019. It was Bellinger’s 10th homer of the season.

Corey Seager hit a solo shot in the first, and Will Smith added one in the second. Seager has nine homers and Smith has four. Smith’s was a 439-foot drive into the second deck in left field at new Globe Life Field.

The Dodgers were off Monday, the final day of August.
