The purchase of the Crossroads Center by Washington County should never happen. An already over burdened city budget will be put to task to maintain services and the school district will suffer. When you drive around the city and see the empty lots and the lost downtown area it is evident that taxable property is being lost. I can imagine that city services and school personnel will be laid off. Ten million dollars is ten times what it would cost to repair and update the current building. Why not lease a floor of Crossroads Center if they need to expand county offices. I cannot imagine why more residents of the city and the Borough of East Washington aren’t opposing this fiscal folly. Reread Commissioner Maggi’s editorial and do something!
