HOLE-IN-ONE
Blair Burkhart had a hole-in-one at Indiana Run Golf Club. Burkhart aced the 120-yard No. 8 hole by using a gap wedge. Witnesses were Dave Gibbon and Art Scherlich.
• Burgettstown native Lynn Lawson had a hole-in-one at Royal Palm Golf Course in Naples, Fla. He aced a 95-yard hole by using a No. 5 rescue club.

1948 – Bob Mathias, a 17-year-old from California, splashes his way to the gold medal in the decathlon on a rain-filled day at the London Olympics.
1969 – Delvin Miller is enshirned in harness racing’s Hall of Fame in Goshen, N.Y.
1972 – Bill Schmidt, a 1965 graduate of Canon-McMillan High School and a former All-American at North Texas State University, wins the javelin competition at the United States Olympic Track & Field Trials in Eugene, Ore. Schmidt’s throw of 270-6 secures him a spot on the U.S. team for the Munich Games in September.
2017 – Jeff Horn shocks Manny Pacquiao by a controversial unanimous decision at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, Australia, to win the WBO welterweight title. All three judges award the bout to Horn, with American Waleska Roldan’s 117-111 score attracting most of the criticism. U.S. judge Chris Flores and Ramon Cerdan of Argentina each score it much closer at 115-113.
