Larry Lis Sr. of Avella had a hole-in-one Sunday at Brooke Hills Park in Wellsburg, W.Va. Lis used a 7-iron to ace the 110-yard No. 17 hole for his fourth career hole-in-one. His playing partners were Larry Lis Jr., Jason Lis and Austin Lis.

1911 – Dorothea Lambert Chambers sets the record for the shortest championship match at Wimbledon — 25 minutes — by disposing of Dora Boothby 6-0, 6-0 in the women’s finals.
1949 – Cincinnati left fielder Eddie Lukon of Burgettstown hits two home runs and drives in five runs as the Reds defeat the Chicago Cubs 6-2 at Wrigley Field.
1959 – At Pittsburgh’s Forbes Field, Los Angeles’ Don Drysdale pitches three perfect innings and Eddie Matthews homers as the National League edges the American League 5-4 in the first of two all-star games played that year.
1970 – Rico Carty, the National League’s leading hitter, becomes the first player voted to play in the All-Star Game as a write-in candidate. The Braves outfielder’s name was left off the ballot that was drawn up by managers and general managers before the start of spring training
1981 – Defensive end Keith Gary, the Pittsburgh Steelers first-round draft pick, signs a two-year contract with the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League.
1982 – The Pittsburgh Steelers lose assistant head coach George Perles to the rival United States Football League only two weeks before the start of training camp. Perles is named head coach of the USFL’s Philadelphia Stars.
