Charley Rossi caught a pair of first-half touchdown passes and added a fourth-quarter interception return for another score as South Fayette never trailed in a critical 38-14 victory Friday night over West Allegheny.
Rossi caught nine passes for 137 yards to lead the Lions to their third-straight victory.
With the win over West Allegheny (1-3, 3-3), South Fayette (3-1, 4-2) greatly enhanced its chances to capture a playoff spot and will face Upper St. Clair next week.
South Fayette quarterback Naman Alemada completed 19 of 26 passes for 211 yards.
Alemada connected with Rossi for a seven-yard touchdown pass to open the scoring with 4:47 left to play in the first quarter.
After Lions running back Shay Aitken then scored on an 11-yard touchdown run, Alemada found Rossi again for a 36-yard touchdown pass that gave South Fayette a 21-0 advantage.
Aitken carried the ball 14 times for 59 yards to lead the Lions rushing attack.
Tristan Bedillion and Rossi rounded out South Fayette’s scoring in the fourth quarter with a pair of interception returns for touchdown less than two minutes apart.
West Allegheny was led by quarterback Gavin Miller who completed 15 of 34 passes for 179 yards.
Miller found wide receiver Jashaun Spencer for touchdown passes of 21 and 56 yards.
Jefferson-Morgan 20, Mapletown 13
Jonathan Wolfe rushed for 141 yards and one touchdown on 25 carries to lead Jefferson-Morgan to a 20-13 comeback victory over Mapletown in a Class A Tri-County South Conference game.
Wolfe scored on a four-yard touchdown run with 27 seconds remaining in the third quarter as the Rockets (3-3, 3-3) took a 14-13 lead over the Maples (1-5,1-5) they would not relinquish.
Jefferson-Morgan added on to its lead when Colton Fowler found Owen Maddich for a 55-yard touchdown pass with 1:52 left in the game.
Although the Maples attempted to tie the game with a late drive, the Rockets defense stood tall with a sack on their own 30-yard line to end the game.
Mapletown received touchdown runs from Max Vanata and Landan Stevenson. Vanata found the end zone from four yards out, while Stevenson scored on a five-yard run.
West Greene 53, Brownsville 12
West Greene running back Corey Wise need only four carries to rack up 101 yards and two touchdowns and Wesley Whipkey completed 5 of 5 passes for 79 yards and three touchdowns, as the Pioneers pounded visiting Brownsville 53-12.
Whipkey connected with Dalton Lucey for a 30-yard touchdown in the first quarter before he found Nathan Orndoff for a pair of touchdowns as the Pioneers (2-3) raced to a 47-0 halftime advantage.
Wise scored on touchdown runs of 31 and 59 yards in the first half. Colin Brady and Seth Burns also added touchdown runs to round out West Greene’s first-half scoring.
Eric Allen found the end zone for Brownsville (0-6) with a pair of second-half rushing touchdowns.
Johnny Lampe rounded out the scoring with a three-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Burgettstown 27, Northgate 7
Burgettstown’s Shane Kemper and Cole Shergi combined to rush for 222 yards and four touchdowns as the Blue Devils rolled to a 27-7 Class A Big Seven Conference victory Friday night over Northgate.
Kemper carried the ball 15 times for 95 yards and three touchdowns, while Shergi racked up 127 yards on 14 carries and one score as the Blue Devils (3-3, 3-3) kept the visiting Flames (0-6, 0-6) winless.
Kemper scored on a pair of five-yard runs and a 26-yard jaunt to the end zone. Shergi scored on an 11-yard run in the fourth quarter.
North Allegheny 35, Canon-McMillan 0
Greg Phillips threw four touchdown passes, Mason Kress and J.R. Burton each had two scores and undefeated North Allegheny blanked Canon-McMillan 35-0 in a Class 6A Quad County West Conference game.
North Allegheny (4-0, 5-0) forged a 14-0 lead on scoring passes of 15 and eight yards from Phillips to Kress. The Tigers then pulled away by scoring in the final minute of the first half and again 1:01 into the second half.
Phillips threw an 11-yard TD pass to Khalil Dinkins that made it 21-0. Burton took a short pass from Phillips on the opening possession of the second half and went 85 yards for a score and 28-0 lead.
Burton capped the scoring with a three-yard sweep in the fourth quarter.
Canon-McMillan (2-3, 2-3) played without leading rusher Ryan Angott and struggled to generate offense.
Ligonier Valley 42, Waynesburg 7
Hayden Sierocky ran for three touchdowns and passed for another as Ligonier Valley defeated Waynesburg 42-7 in a nonconference game.
Ligonier Valley (3-3) led 14-0 after one quarter, then scored two touchdowns in the final 1:29 of the first half to break open the game.
Sierocky scored on runs of 12, 5 and 12 yards and threw a 15-yard scoring pass to Matthew Marinchak on the final play of the first half to make it 27-0.
Waynesburg (0-6) scored on a 10-yard TD run by Darnell Johnson midway through the fourth quarter, cutting Ligonier Valley’s lead to 35-7.
Ligonier Valley rushed for 297 yards.
Breydon Woods rushed for 102 yards on 20 carries for Waynesburg.
Thomas Jefferson 41, Ringgold 0
Unbeaten Thomas Jefferson did all its scoring in the first half and cruised to a 41-0 victory over Ringgold in a Class 4A Big Eight Conference game at Joe Montana Stadium.
The win gives TJ (5-0, 5-0) the conference championship. Ringgold falls to 0-5, 1-5.

Frazier was a 39-0 winner over Beth-Center in the Class 2A Century Conference, and Union rallied to edge Fort Cherry 43-42 in a wild Class A Big Seven Conference game. No game details were available at press time.
