1950 – George Anthou scores on runs of 84 and 93 yards as Canonsburg High School, under coach Al DeLucia, remains undefeated with a 31-13 win over Trinity.
1961 – Bob Riggle scores on runs of 20 and 64 yards as Washington efeats Trinity 21-7 before 6,200 at Wash High Stadium.
1972 – Kevin Cooper tackles Beth-Center’s Ted Bozich in the end zone for a safety with 3:03 remaining, and Guy Montecalvo adds a last-minute 45-yard touchdown run, as Washington stays undefeated in Century Conference play with an 8-0 victory over the host Bulldogs.
1976 – The Philadelphia 76ers acquire Julius Erving from the New York Nets for $3 million.
1983 – Peters Township’s Tim Buckley is the overall individual winner at the WPIAL Cross Country Southern Qualifier at Mingo Park. Buckley helps PT to a third-place finish by covering the course in 16:09.
1984 – Washington & Jefferson gets two short touchdown runs from both A.J. Pagano and Shiloh Icenhour and routs 10th-ranked Carnegie Mellon 36-8 at College Field to take sole possession of first place in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference.
1984 – Fourth-quarter touchdown runs by Ron Wolfley and John Gay enable West Virginia to overcome an 11-point second-half deficit and upset Doug Flutie-led Boston College 21-20 at Mountaineer Field.
2000 – Washington quarterback Justin Gregula sets the school’s single-season touchdown pass record by throwing for three scores and raising his total to 18 in the Prexies’ 46-14 victory over visiting Quaker Valley.
2000 – Ringgold’s Joe Webb accounts for more than 200 yards of offense and one touchdown as Ringgold clinches a WPIAL Class AAAA playoff berth with a 27-24 victory over host Upper St. Clair.
2003 – Krista Cyprowski puts Chartiers-Houston’s third shot of the second shootout into the net for the game-winning goal in the Bucs’ 3-2 win over Beaver in the WPIAL Class AA soccer playoffs. It’s C-H’s first girls soccer playoff victory and comes after 110 minutes of play and eight rounds of penalty kicks.
