DOVER, Ohio – South Fayette may have traveled a couple hours by bus, but the Lions wasted little time exploding for 21 first-quarter points en route to a 42-14 season-opening victory.
Quarterback Nathan Alemada completed 14 of 19 passes for 224 yards, four touchdowns and one interception to lead the Lions’ offensive attack, while Shay Aitken rushed for 178 yards and one touchdown on 13 carries and wide receiver Charley Rossi caught six passes for 74 yards.
Aitken opened the scoring with a two-yard touchdown run with 9:12 left in the first quarter before Ryan McGuire hauled in touchdown passes of 12 and 52 yards to give South Fayette a lead it would never relinquish.
Joey Audia and Tristan Bedillion caught third-quarter touchdown passes before Nate Deanes added a two-yard touchdown run to close out the Lions’ scoring in the fourth quarter.
Beth-Center 20, Waynesburg 7
Colby Kuhn scored a pair of touchdowns to lead the Bulldogs to a season-opening 20-7 win over the Raiders.
After Waynesburg’s Breydon Woods scored on a three-yard touchdown run to give the Raiders a 7-0 first quarter lead, Kuhn responded with touchdown runs of 12 and five yards to give Beth-Center a 14-7 halftime lead.
Kuhn also threw a seven-yard, second-half touchdown pass to Blayze Vilcoss.
Yough 29, Chartiers-Houston 6
Yough defense held Chartiers-Houston to just 134 yards and did not allow a score in a 29-6 victory.
Yough quarterback Tristan Waldier threw three touchdowns and C.J. Waldier caught two touchdown passes.
Gameal Marballie rushed foor 213 yards on 21 carries and scored on a one-yard run.
C-H scored when Nathan Cavallo returned an interception 41 yards for a touchdown.
Belle Vernon 20, McKeesport 0
Devin Whitlock scored a pair of touchdowns and rushed for 213 yards on 16 carries to lead Belle Vernon to a 20-0 victory over McKeesport.
Whitlock opened the scoring with a touchdown run in the first quarter and the Leopards would not score again until he found the end zone one a two-yard run in the fourth quarter.
Logan Cunningham put an exclamation mark on the defensive battle with a 59-yard interception return for a touchdown to seal Belle Vernon’s victory.
Avella 20, Monessen 7
Avella fell behind early, but rallied with 20-unanswered points to erase a one-point halftime deficits and claim a 20-7 victory over Monessen.
Isiah Beltram staked the host Greyhounds to a 7-0 lead with 7:44 left in the first quarter, but Monessen struggled to find much more offense in a night dominated late by the Eagles.
With just 46 second left before halftime, Avella finally opened its scoring, as quarterback K.J. Rush connected with Tanner Terensky for a 25-yard touchdown pass.
A missed extra point by Robbie West, however, left Monessen with a 7-6 lead at the break.
The Eagles wasted little time in the second half, as Rush scored a one-yard touchdown with 6:20 left in the third quarter to give Avella the lead for good.
Terensky iced the Eagles’ victory with a 96-yard interception return for a touchdown with 1:46 left to play in the game.
California 27, Bentwoth 7
Jaden Zuzak rushed for 176 yards on 15 tries and California defeated Bentworth 27-7.
Zuzak scores on a 10-yard run, caught a 25-yard pass and a 65 interception return.
Nate O’Savage returned an interception 35 yards for a score and Owen Petresik caught a 66 yard TD pass from Seth Adams.
West Greene 43, Mapletown 8
Corey Wise rushed for 152 yards on 11 carries and scored twice as West Greene ran past Mapletown in a Tri-County South game, 43-8.
West Greene rolled up 400 total yards and Wise scored on two runs of three yards. Hunter Hamilton, Bryce Anderson and Colin Brady each had rushing touchdowns. Nathan Orndoff caught a TD pass from Wes Whipkey, who completed six of nine passes for 99 yards. Brady rushed for 92 yards on 10 carries.
Cohen Stout had a touchdown for the Maples and Landon Stevenson had 85 yards on 13 carries.

Pittsburgh Central Catholic rolled past Canon-McMillan 45-17, while Burgettstown defeated Fort Cherry 27-22 and Frazier knocked off Charleroi 34-0.
