HOLE-IN-ONE
Charles Eisenbarth of Brookline had a hole-in-one Wednesday at Rolling Green Golf Course. Eisenbart aced the 165-yard No. 14 hole by using a 5-iron. His playing partner was Steve LaFlace.

1954 – Rocky Marciano knocks out Ezzard Charles in the eighth round at the Yankee Stadium in New York to retain his world heavyweight title.
1955 – In the first color telecast of a football game by NBC, No. 10 Georgia Tech posts a 14-6 win over No. 9 Miami in Atlanta. The Ramblin’ Wreck’s winning score comes in the final minute when linebacker Jimmy Morris returns an interception 25 yards for a touchdown.
1961 – Allen Green kicks a 27-yard field goal with one second remaining to give the Dallas Cowboys a 27-24 victory over the visiting Pittsburgh Steelers. It’s the Cowboys’ first win as a member of the NFL.
1965 – Bob Mavrich scores three touchdowns, including two in the fourth quarter, as Canon-McMillan High School defeats visiting Braddock, 20-7.
1966 – In his head coaching debut, coach Joe Paterno leads Penn State past Maryland 15-7. The Nittany Lions hold on as Terrapins back up quarterback Phil Petry throws an incomplete pass on fourth down from the Penn State one-yard line in the fourth quarter.
1973 – The Pittsburgh Triangles of the 16-team World Team Tennis, sign three-time Grand Slam champion Evonne Goolagong. The 22-year-old Goolagong has won singles titles at Wimbledon, the French Open and United States Open.
1982 – John Hairston rushes for 195 yards and two touchdowns as Trinity ends a 12-game losing streak with a 35-7 victory over Southmoreland at College Field.
1982 – Mapletown (1-1-1) ends a 20-game winless streak with a 12-7 victory over German Township. Ed Pekar throws two touchdown passes for the Maples.
1987 – Jaguar Spur, with driver Dick Stillings, wins The Little Brown Jug, the second leg of pacing Triple Crown, at the Delaware (Ohio) County Fairgrounds.
1990 – Fort Cherry’s football team runs its record to 3-0 with a 29-6 win at Springdale. Sonny McClain runs for 151 yar4ds on 16 carries and scores two touchdowns.
1991 – Waynesburg High School hires Jim Hoy as its boys basketball coach. Hoy spent the last two years as head coach at Freedom in Beaver County. He repalces Glenn Kyle, who resigned after 10 years with the Raiders to become an assistant at California University.
1996 – Jim Leyland informs the Pittsburgh Pirates that he will resign at the end of the season, his 11th as the team’s manager.
