Tyler Glasnow struck out a career-high 14 in 7 2/3 innings and Willy Adames homered in the seventh to help the Tampa Bay Rays beat the sputtering Texas Rangers 1-0 Monday night.

Glasnow (1-0) allowed two hits and got his first win of the season after pitching well but not being involved in decisions in two previous starts. He allowed Eli White’s single up the middle off the glove of diving second baseman Brandon Lowe with one out in the fifth and Jose Trevino’s leadoff single in the eighth.

Adames homered off Taylor Hearn (0-1) with two outs in the seventh, just the third hit yielded by Texas pitchers. Rangers starter Dane Dunning limited the Rays to a pair of doubles in the first two innings before being replaced by Hearn at the start of the fifth.

Texas was shut out for the third time in four games.

Seatlle-Baltimore ppd: The series opener between the Seattle Mariners and the Baltimore Orioles was rained out Monday night.

The game was rescheduled as part of a doubleheader today starting at 4:05 p.m.

Boston-Minnesota ppd: The Minnesota Twins postponed their game against the Boston Red Sox because of safety concerns following the fatal police shooting of a Black man and the potential for unrest in the area.

The Red Sox and Twins were scheduled to begin a four-game series Monday afternoon at Target Field. The Twins said their decision was made in consultation with Major League Baseball and state and local officials.

New York Mets-Philadelphia ppd: The New York Mets sidestepped another meteorological miscue Monday night.

A day after pushing starter Marcus Stroman to pitch amid rain that paused play after seven minutes, the Mets called off their game Monday against the Philadelphia Phillies with another downpour en route, rescheduling it as part of a doubleheader today.

The decision was announced about two hours before Monday’s 7:10 p.m. scheduled first pitch.

New York has played just five games in the first 12 days of the season because of a COVID-19 outbreak among the Washington Nationals and then bad weather.

The rainout follows a blunder by the Mets ballpark operations staff, which powered ahead with a first pitch Sunday afternoon, only to have umpires waive the teams off the field two outs into the top of the first inning. Home teams make decisions regarding delays before games start, but once they’re under way, that power transfers to the umpires.

Stroman started that game for New York and threw just nine pitches. He tweeted his unhappiness to have wasted his turn in the rotation.
