High school baseball
Austin Kuslock’s bases-loaded single in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Anthony Romano and gave Chartiers-Houston a 7-6 win over previously undefeated Carmichaels in a non-section game Friday.
Chartiers-Houston (8-1) has won six straight. Carmichaels drops to 5-1. The Mikes led 6-3 in the fourth but C-H battled back to tie the score in the fifth.
In the seventh, Romano led off by reaching on an error, advanced on a walk and moved up on a bunt single by Matt Rieger, setting up Kuslock’s game-winner.
Carmichaels’ Drake Long led off the game with a home run. Gavin Pratt had a double for the Mikes.
Winning pitcher Roman Lombardi faced only two batters.
- Canon-McMillan scored nine times in the third inning en route to a 13-4 thumping of Pine-Richland in non-section play.
Kolson Desocio, Zane Freund and Connor Hyde doubled for the Big Macs (4-5) and four pitchers combined on a six-hitter.
- Ringgold defeated Columbiana (Ohio) 9-2 in a game played at PNC Park.
- Winning pitcher Adam Wolf went 4-for-4, drove in five and had a three-run homer in a four-run first as Fort Cherry crushed Cornell 12-2 in a non-section game.
Winning pitcher Owen Norman went 2-for-2 with two RBI for the Rangers (6-2). Henry Karn and Mitch Cook doubled.
High school softball
Jocelyn Polonoli went 2-for-3 and drove in five runs with a home run and double as Charleroi rolled to a 10-0 victory over California in five innings in Class 2A Section 3.
Kylie Quigley pitched a one-hitter for Charleroi (3-2, 5-5), which has won three straight. Quigley did not walk a batter and struck out eight. She also hit a double. McKenna DeUnger had a double.
- Belle Vernon scored 11 runs in the top of the second and cruised to a 13-2 win over Uniontown in Class 4A Section 2.
Maren Mtikosh had three hits, including a double, and three RBI to lead the Leopards (3-1, 6-3). Gracie Sokol and Ava Zubovic doubled. Pitchers Sophie Godzak and Talia Ross combined on a three-hitter.
- Trista Fehl-Gariglio’s single with two outs in the sixth inning scored Carman Lucas with what turned out to be the winning run in Fort Cherry’s 4-3 victory over South Side Beaver in a non-section game.
Fort Cherry (4-3) overcame a 3-2 deficit with a run in the fifth and another in the sixth.
Annika Rinehart and Macey Roble each smacked a triple for the Rangers and pitcher Adryonna Herbst struck out eight.
- Regan Milliken and Delaney Nagy each homered, leading a 19-hit attack for Bethel Park as the undefeated Black Hawks beat Canon-McMillan 18-4 in Class 6A Section 1.
Bethel Park (3-0, 7-0) had six extra-base hits and Milliken finished with four RBI.
Elli Kotar hit a home run for Canon-Mac (0-2, 2-4).
- Frazier’s Madison Bednar and Nicole Palmer combined on a four-inning no-hitter as Frazier blanked Beth-Center 15-0 in Class 2A Section 3.
Riley Evans and Delaney Warnick each homered and Jensyn Hartman hit two doubles. Bednar and Evans each drove in four runs.
- Justena Giles went 4-for-5 with a home run and four RBI as Our Lady of Sacred Heart beat Chartiers-Houston 14-5 in a Class 2A Section 1.
Lindsay Felsing also homered for section-leading OLSH (5-0, 7-0). Paige McAvoy had a triple and Nicolette Kloes doubled for C-H (1-3, 2-4). Bella Hess went 3-for-4.
- Kiley Meek threw a two-hitter with eight strikeouts and helped her cause with two doubles as West Greene beat Monessen 11-1 in a five-inning game in Class A Section 2.
London Whipkley had a double and scored three times and Anna Durbin added a double for WG (3-0, 7-1).
