High school softball

Waynesburg moved ahead of Mount Pleasant and into second place in Class 3A Section 3 softball with an 11-10 win over the Vikings on Saturday.

Erin Fitch had three hits and two RBI and Meghan Braun hit a home run for the Raiders (3-1, 6-2).

Kylee Goodman knocked in three runs with a pair of hits for Waynesburg, which scored six times in the sixth inning.

Mary Smithnosky had three hits, including a home run for Mount Pleasant (2-1, 7-2), which also got a 4-for-4 performance out of Courtney Poulich.

n Ringgold exploded for eight runs in the sixth inning to put away its first win of the season, 14-8 over host California, in a non-section game.

Daniella Vecchio and Peyton Laflash both hit home runs for the Rams (1-6) who also got doubles from Olivia Vecchio and Leah Jaquay.

n West Allegheny scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and dealt visiting South Fayette its first loss in Class 5A Section 4.

The Indians (3-1, 5-2) led 2-1 entering the bottom of the sixth, when they got a three-run homer from Emily Nolan and back-to-back homers from Maddie Rieker and Megan Pollinger.

Whitney Col homered, and Haley Nicholson and Lexie Vetter doubled for South Fayette (4-1, 7-1).

In the NBA

Bam Adebayo’s 13-foot jumper rattled in as time expired, and the Miami Heat defeated the Brooklyn Nets 109-107 on Sunday to snap a three-game slide.

n Julius Randle had 33 points and 10 assists, Derrick Rose made huge plays all over the court to spark New York’s streak-saving finish and the Knicks beat the New Orleans Pelicans 122-112 in overtime for their sixth consecutive victory.

n Trae Young scored 34 points, Clint Capela had 25 points and 24 rebounds and the Atlanta Hawks beat the Indiana Pacers 129-117.

In the NHL

Birthday boy Mika Zibanejad scored a power-play goal with three minutes to play and the New York Rangers beat the New Jersey Devils 5-3 Sunday to sweep a four-game series over the past six days.

Chris Kreider, Vitali Kravtsov, Alexis Lafreniere and Ryan Strome also scored as the Rangers extended their season-high point streak to six games (5-0-1). Alexandar Georgiev, who had to leave the ice late in the first period with a lower-body injury only to return, finished with 25 saves as New York improved to 13-4-3 in its past 20 games.
