Kyle Schwarber led off the bottom of the 10th inning with a two-run homer and the Washington Nationals, boosted by a fine debut by Jon Lester, rallied past the Miami Marlins 2-1 Friday night.

With Josh Bell starting the extra inning as the automatic runner on second base, Schwarber hit an 0-1 fastball to right-center off Yimi Garcia (2-2). It was Schwarber’s second walk-off homer of the season.

Brad Hand (2-0) pitched two innings for the win.

Garrett Cooper’s single scored Jose Devers to the Marlins a 1-0 lead in the top of the 10th.

Lester, Schwarber’s former teammate with the Chicago Cubs, pitched five scoreless innings in his first game for Washington. Reinstated from the injured list before the game, he allowed five hits and two walks while striking out one on 70 pitches.

Gregorius on COVID list: The Philadelphia Phillies placed shortstop Didi Gregorius on the COVID-related injured list.

Bench coach Rob Thomson said the move was taken as a precaution and did not indicate what caused the decision.

Manager Joe Girardi missed the game to attend his daughter’s college graduation.

Gregorius is hitting .250 with two home runs and 14 RBIs this season. The Phillies recalled catcher Rafael Marchan from the alternate site in Allentown before Friday’s game against the Mets.

Calhoun to IL: Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Kole Calhoun, who playfully fist-bumped a teenaged fan after being outreached for a foul ball last weekend, is expected to miss six to eight weeks because of an injured left hamstring injury.

Calhoun underwent a procedure Friday to remove a tendon in his hamstring, the team said. He suffered the injury while stealing third base in a 5-1 victory over San Diego on Tuesday.

Diamondbacks general manager Mike Hazen said NFL players have had the same operation as Calhoun, but was unsure if a baseball player had undergone the same procedure.

Paddack out with ‘medial condition’: San Diego Padres right-hander Chris Paddack was placed on the injured list Friday with what manager Jayce Tingler described only as “a medical condition.”

Asked if it was related to COVID-19, Tingler said: “I cannot get into it. I wish I could give you details, I can’t. All I’ll say is it’s a medical condition.”

The Padres did not specify if it was the 10-day injured list.

Paddack (1-3, 5.40 ERA) last pitched on Tuesday at Arizona, taking a 5-1 loss after giving up five runs, three earned, and six hits in 51/3 innings.

N.Y. Yankees 10, Detroit 0: Aaron Judge managed his own workload.

Judge hit a grand slam for one of two homers to earn an early exit, Gerrit Cole struck out 12 and the New York Yankees routed the Detroit Tigers 10-0.

The frequently injured Judge was held out of New York’s starting lineup in its previous two games with what the Yankees described as lower body soreness. Manager Aaron Boone has declined to elaborate, although he’s said repeatedly he’s eager to get Judge off his feet when he can – akin to the load management practice that’s become common in the NBA.

Whatever his ailment, Judge found his footing against the last-place Tigers with a leadoff homer in the third and a slam to the second deck in right field in the fourth. He was replaced on defense with New York up 10-0 in the sixth.
