1971 – Undefeated Dick Pollock sets Waynesburg College’s career dual meet wins record with his 40th, a 13-0 victory at 150 pounds, sparking the Yellow Jackets to a 23-12 victory over Miami (Ohio).
1973 – The undefeated Avella High School wrestling team beats visiting Washington 33-25 as heavyweight Tom Ward scores a fall for the Eagles in match’s final bout.
1974 – Dwight Clay makes a game-winning jumper from the right corner with 29 seconds left and Notre Dame beats UCLA, 71-70, to end the Bruins’ record 88-game basketball winning streak. Notre Dame, trailing 70-59 with 3:30 remaining, scores the game’s final 12 points.
1979 – Trinity heavyweight Dru West wins a 5-3 decision and the Hillers edge Chartiers-Houston 21-20 in a battle for first place in Section 6-AAA.
1981 – Theresa Albano’s three-point play with two seconds remaining in overtime gives Immaculate Conception a 54-53 girls basketball victory over Brownsville.
1982 – Jackie Sherrill resigns as head football coach at Pitt and accepts a six-year contract to coach Texas A&M. Sherrill leaves with a 50-9-1 record and is immediately replaced at Pitt by defensive coordinator Serafino “Foge” Fazio.
1983 – Tom Martin of the Western Hockey League’s Seattle Breakers is traded to Victoria for a used bus.
1986 – Second-ranked Trinity uses a last-second takedown and win by Rick West (155 pounds) and Bill Edgar’s pin at 167 to turn a three-point lead into a 12-point bulge en route to a 26-20 victory over third-ranked North Allegheny.
1995 – Former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive lineman Ted Petersen resigns as head football coach at Trinity.
1996 – Chad Williamson scores 20 points and Mike Deegan contributes 18, helping Trinity rally from an eight-point deficit in the first overtime and defeat Mt. Lebanon 79-74 in double overtime.
1999 – Trinity’s Damien Hagan and Avella’s Dave Cecchini each score their 1,000th career point. Hagan has 19 points in the Hillers’ 78-71 loss to Canevin. Cecchini finishes with 13 in a 77-66 loss to Quigley.
2010 – Craig Wolcott scores 36 points to lead Peters Township to a 65-44 victory over visiting Canon-McMillan.
