1979 – Bruce Kison throws a one-hitter in Pittsburgh’s 7-0 victory over the San Diego Padres at Three Rivers Stadium. The only hit Kison allows is an eighth-inning double by Barry Evans that is slightly tipped by Pirates third baseman Phil Garner. The Pirates hit five home runs, including two by Bill Robinson.

1986 – Jeff Jento, Scott Bowman and Dave Gamble – the top three hitters in Jefferson-Morgan’s lineup – combine for six hits, eight runs and six RBI as the Rockets overpower Portage 14-6 in the PIAA Class AA baseball playoffs in Indiana.

1988 – John Smiley pitches a one-hitter and Mike Diaz, a pinch-hitter, drive in the winning run in the ninth inning as the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Montreal Expos, 2-1, at Three Rivers Stadium. Tim Wallach’s triple in the fourth inning is Montreal’s lone hit.

1999 – Jeff Klinefelter breaks open a tie game with a run-scoring triple in the bottom of the sixth inning that sends Waynesburg to a 7-5 victory over Brownsville in the WPIAL Class AA baseball championship game at Veterans Field in Charleroi. It’s the first WPIAL baseball title for Waynesburg, which lost twice to Brownsville during the regular season. The Raiders win the championship by defeating the first-, second- and third-seeded teams in the playoffs.

1999 – Erica Riggle strikes out 16 and Chartiers-Houston defeats Leechburg 4-2 to win the WPIAL Class A softball championship at California University.
