1947 – Latrobe’s Arnold Palmer shoots 3-under-par 69 at Westmoreland Country Club to repeat as WPIAL golf champion. Palmer beats runner-up Leroy Bringe of Oakmont by seven strokes.

1955 – Sam “Toothpick” Jones of the Chicago Cubs gets a no-hitter the hard way. In the ninth inning against Pittsburgh, he walks the bases loaded and proceeds to strike out the next three batters for a 4-0 victory.

1964 – Bob Courson throws a two-hitter and Gary Smith drives in two runs in Trinity’s 5-0 victory over Burgettstown that gives the Hillers the Section 3 baseball title.

1965 – Bill Micsky throws a one-hitter and belts a solo home run to lead Beth-Center to a 4-0 win over Jefferson-Morgan that clinches the Section 16 title.

1978 – Fort Cherry’s Janet Marquis throws a no-hitter, striking out 16, in the Rangers’ 5-0 softball victory over Carlynton.

1979 – Stan Oleski pitches 6 2/3 innings, Jim Robertson gets a save and Doug Tunno belts a three-run homer as California State College wins its first PSAC baseball championship by defeating Shippensburg, 10-5.

1986 – Washington, under head coach Dave Johnston, wins the WPIAL boys track team title, edging Hempfield and Gateway in the finals at North Allegheny, and becomes the first school in WPIAL history to win boys basketball, wrestling and boys track team titles in the same school year.

1987 – Beth-Center defeats host Mapletown, 9-2, to clinch its first WPIAL baseball playoff berth in 10 years.

2011 – Tyler Delval pitches a no-hitter and smacks a three-run homer to lead Bentworth to a 4-0 victory over Chartiers-Houston in a Section 2-A baseball game.
