Fort Cherry made a stand at its own 10-yard line and secured a 29-28 victory over Northgate in a Big Seven Conference game Friday night at Jim Garry Stadium.

Maddox Truschel hit Anthony D’Alessandro with a 13-yard touchdown pass in the final minutes and Shane Cornali kicked the extra point for the game-winning point.

Truschel managed to guide Fort Cherry (4-2, 2-1) to 369 total yards and ran it in from six and 11 yards.

Northgate (1-2, 2-4) gained 366 total yards. Jordan S,alley burst through for a 65-yard run and Davontie Christie pulled in a 40-yard pass with 11 minutes remaining to play,

Northgate took a 16-14 lead at halftime thanks to turnovers. One led to a 1-yard run by Davontie Christie that gave the Flames a 16-6 lead.

Maddox Truschel, who ran for 90 yards, fumbled three times, recovering two, and threw an interception.

Truschel did break off a 6-yard run for a touchdown a minute before the half to make it a 2-point game.

Northgate quarterback Austin Mitchell ran one in from 34 yards to make it 8-6.

Nate Heirendt capped the first drive of the game with a one-yard run on Fort Cherry’s first possession.

Bentworth 49, Jefferson-Morgan 48

Seth Adams threw for three touchdowns and ran for three more and Bentworth made Anthony Taylor’s final successful extra point stand in a wild, 49-48 victory over Jefferson-Morgan, in a Tri-County South Conference game.

Adams completed 17 of 34 passes for 274 yards and rushed for 116 yards on 21 carries and scored three times, the final one a 9-yarder with 33 seconds left to play.

Jefferson-Morgan (1-2, 1-5) had one more drive left in it but a pass fell incomplete in the end zone as tie expired.

J-M’s Colt Fowler had five receptions for 167 yards and three touchdowns. He also returned a punt for a touchdown. Cole Jones completed 15 of 34 passes for 261 yards and three touchdowns.

Caleb Peternal caught seven passes for 133 yards for Bentworth (1-2, 2-3) and caught two of Adam’s touchdowns.

Chartiers-Houston 27, Charleroi 10

Lane Camden rushed for 104 yards and scored three touchdowns as Chartiers-Houston stopped Charleroi, 27-10, in a Class 2A Century Conference game.

Camden scored on runs of two, 22 and 3 yards for the Bucs (2-1, 4-1). Jordan Irson scored on a six-yard run in the third quarter. He finished with 67 yards rushing on 16 carries.

Mason Megela scored for Charleroi (1-2, 1-4).

Mapletown 15, Monessen 8

Brody Evans caught a touchdown pass and threw for a two-point conversion, and Mapletown’s defense shut out Monessen over the final three quarters for a 15-8 victory in a Class A Tri-County South Conference game.

The win snapped a three-game losing streak for Mapletown (1-2, 3-3).

Evans opened the scoring when he caught a seven-yard touchdown pass from Max Vanata with 3:58 left in the first quarter, giving Mapletown a 7-0 lead.

Monessen (2-1, 3-3) grabbed an 8-7 lead by scoring 65 seconds later on an 80-yard run by Daevon Burke and a two-point conversion run by Anthony Crews. Burke was the game’s leading rusher with 116 yards on 10 attempts.

Mapletown regained the lead at 15-8 in the second quarter when Landan Stevenson scored on a 26-yard jaunt. Evans then threw a two-point conversion pass to Clay Menear.

Stevenson finished with 112 yards on 29 carries.

Monessen had a slight edge in total yardage, 177-163. Mapletown had 10 first downs to Monessen’s six. The Greyhounds were hurt by nine penalties.

Waynesburg 27, Frazier 7

A 24-game losing streak in conference play dissipated when Waynesburg dropped Frazier, 27-7, in a Century Conference game.

Breydon Woods scored three touchdowns on runs of 1, 55, and 2 yards. He had 178 yards on 25 carries.

Jacob Stephenson also scored two touchdowns for the Raiuders on runs of 5 and 4 yards. He had 96 yards on 14 carries.

Frazier (0-2, 0-6) scored the game’s first touchdown, on a one-yard plunge by Braydon Boggs, but Woods’ long jaunt tied the score and Stephenson’s 5-yard TD early in the second quarter put Waynesburg (1-2, 2-4) in the lead for good.

Moon 28, South Fayette 13

Trey McGowen passed for one touchdown in the second half and ran for another with one minute remaining to cap Moon’s 28-13 victory over South Fayette in a Class 5A Allegheny Six Conference.

The win keeps Moon undefeated at 1-0 in the conference and 6-0 overall.

After South Fayette (0-1, 4-2) forged a 7-0 lead, Moon ran off 21 unanswered points. The Lions closed to within 21-13, then had a first-and-goal at the Moon 1-yard line in the fourth quarter but turned the ball over on downs back at the 8.

Nate Deanes’ 2-yard TD run in the first quarter gave South Fayette the early lead, but Moon used a six-minute scoring drive, capped by Dylan Sleva’s 5-yard run to tie the game. The Tigers then grabbed the lead when Taite Beachey capped a two-minute drive with a 2-yard run around right end with 17 seconds in the first half.

Moon scored on its first offensive play of the second half, a 57-yard pass from McGowen to Beachey, that made it 21-7.

The Lions then converted four fourth-down situations in a drive that was capped with a four-yard TD pass from Landon Lutz to Logan Yater late in the third quarter.

Washington-B-C canceled

The Class 2A Century Conference game between Washington and Beth-Center scheduled for Friday night was canceled because of COVID-19 concerns within the Beth-Center program. The game was ruled a forfeit for the Prexies, who improved to 3-0 in the conference and 6-0 overall. Washington will host Uniontown in a non-conference game next week.

In other games

Trinity used a 20-yard field goal by Alex Tush with one second remaining to win at West Mifflin 20-19 in the Class 4A Big Eight Conference. In the same conference, McKeesport was a 41-0 winner over visiting Ringgold. In the Class A Big Seven Conference, Shehango scored all its points in the second half to beat Burgettstown 28-6 at Hill Memorial Stadium. In non-conference play, McGuffey scored the game’s first 21 points but Linsly stormed back for a 26-21 victory in a game played at West Liberty University. No other game details were made available to the Observer-Reporter by press time.
