Trenton Carter passed for three touchdowns and ran for another, Michael Stewart scored three times and Carmichaels routed Monessen 40-6 in a Class A Tri-County South Conference game shortened to 2 1/2 quarters because of lightning Friday night.

Carmichaels (3-1, 5-2) led 40-0 at halftime. Monessen (2-2, 3-4), which was held to one first down in the opening half, scored midway through the third quarter on a 27-yard pass from Lorenzo Gardner to Jamar Bethea, but before the Greyhounds could attempt the conversion the game was stopped because of lightning in the area. A few moments later, before the teams had even left the field, the decision was made to end the game.

Carter threw touchdown passes of 61 yards to Stewart and eight yards to Tyler Richmond to give Carmichaels a 14-0 lead in the first quarter.

Stewart then had touchdown runs of three and 20 yards around a one-yard TD sneak by Carter to make it 33-0 with 1:10 left in the first half.

The Mikes scored one more time before intermission, which started the Mercy Rule for the second half. Richmond took a swing pass from Carter and scored from 15 yards out to make it 40-0 with six seconds to play in the first half.

Mapletown 45, Avella 16

Mapletown scored in only two quarters but the Maples did enough damage in those periods to defeat Avella 45-16 in a Class A Tri-County South Conference game.

Mapletown (2-2, 4-3) scored 23 first-quarter points and added 22 more in the third quarter.

Landan Stevenson rushed for 216 yards and four touchdowns on 18 carries. He also intercepted a pass and returned it 26 yards for a third-quarter score. Stevenson, a junior, topped the 1,000-yard mark for the season and now has 3,072 yards for his career.

Stevenson’s TD runs covered 63 yards on the game’s first play from scrimmage, six yards late in the first quarter, and 42 and 29 yards in the third quarter.

After Stevenson’s opening TD, a high snap from center on a punt sent the ball into the Avella end zone and the Eagles’ punter was tackled by Cohen Stout for a safety that made it 9-0 less than two minutes into the game. Stout had a team-high 11 tackles.

Avella (0-4, 0-7) finally got something going offensively in the second quarter and the drive was capped by Kenneth Rush’s one-yard scoring plunge off left guard to make it 23-8 at halftime.

West Greene 49, Bentworth 12

Colin Brady rushed for 156 yards and scored five touchdowns as West Greene shut down Bentworth 49-12 in Class A Tri-County South action at Kennedy Field.

Brady ran for TDS from 15, 45,7 and 10 yards and returned a kickoff 84 yards for another score.

Hunter Hamilton ran for 82 yards and scored twice for the Pioneers (4-0, 5-2). Wes Whipkey completed 5 of 12 passes for 95 yards.

Chartiers-Houston 34, Frazier 7

Chartiers-Houston set up a showdown in the Class 2A Century Conference next week with McGuffey by defeating host Frazier 34-7.

The Bucs (3-1, 5-1) had five rushing touchdowns inbcluding two by Justin Irson, who led C-H’s ground game with 62 yards on nine carries.

Lane Camden, Nathan Cavallo and Terry fetsko each had a TD run for Chartiers-Houston.

The Bucs led 14-0 after one quarter and 21-7 at halftime. The Bucs secured the win with a 13-0 scoring edge in the third quarter.

Fetsko completed eight of 10 passes for 94 yards. Justin Beekly caught two passes for 78 yards.

Frazier (0-3, 0-7) was held to 92 total yards.

Seneca Valley 24, Canon-McMillan 17, 2 OT

A Mike Evans pass to the end zone was intercepted in the second overtime as Seneca Valley came away with a 24-17 victory over the Big Macs in a Class 6A Quad County Conference game.

Nolan Dworek tied the game and sent it to overtime with a 30-yard run late in the game. Anthony Finney hit a field goal in the first overtime to give C-M a 17-14 lead but Cam Bush tied the game with a field goal of his own.

Seneca Valley (3-1, 5-2) scored a touchdown on its next possession when Dworek went over from 5 yards out.

Evans was picked off in the end zone on a fourth-down pass.

Canon-McMillan (2-2, 4-3) built a 14-6 halftime lead thanks to the running of tailback Ryan Angott and quarterback Mike Evans.

Angott opened the scoring by going 11 yards into the end zone. Anthony Finney nailed the extra point.

Evans took a fourth-down snap and went four yards for a score. Finney’s kick made it 14-6.

Senea Valley scored on a 27-yards pass from Graham Hancox to Brandon Ross. The extra-point try was missed.

In other games

Undefeated Clearfield (7-0) was a 30-0 winner over visiting Trinity in a nonconference game. Rochester avenged a loss last season to Fort Cherry by defeating the visiting Rangers 35-0 in a key Class A Big Seven Conference game. No game details were made available to the Observer-Reporter by press time.
