Neil Armstrong

Good morning,
It was recently brought to the attention of residents on Kings School Road East in the Bethel Park that the school district has plans to build an elementary center that will house grades K-5 on the site of the Neil Armstrong Middle School. The Bethel Park School District plans to close all five elementary schools in the district.
It appears that many homeowners in Bethel Park were unaware of this plan and I question how many residents are aware that neighborhood schools will be closed. One school board member indicated that public meetings about facilities planning have been held for almost 2 years with several feasibility study meetings, etc. My guess is these notifications were on the district’s website. Surveys were not sent to citizens requesting input on this projects.
Homeowners surrounding Neil Armstrong Middle School are organizing to oppose this project due to traffic problems this will create on King School Road, the closure of neighborhood schools and tax increases. I have attached the letter we received from concerned parents and neighbors in our area of BP. You can also view the pending elementary project at https://bpsdbestinclass.org/.
I always read the Almanac and PG, but it seems this project has not received coverage. I remember that the Peters Twp. HS project received lots of coverage.
I plan to speak tomorrow evening at the board meeting. If I can be of further assistance, please feel free to call me at 412.370.5285.
