The 336th Military Police Battalion flew into City Mission earlier this week with a sleigh full of Christmas toys for all the little girls and boys who will call the shelter their home this Christmas.

Currently, we have 16 children living in our Women with Children Shelter, the most the mission has ever had living there at one time. The battalion’s toy donations will also be given to community families in need and to adult residents who would otherwise have no Christmas gifts for their children or grandchildren this year.

Cory Chiocca of the 336th said he came up with the idea of the toy drive, because when he was growing up, he spent many holidays in the hospital with his mom, who was struggling with cancer.

“And I just thought, what better time than now,” he explained, “to give back and help families in need.”

He put out a Facebook message asking for toys and his battalion responded.

The five soldiers from the battalion who came to deliver the gifts were met by Paul, a young resident at our Women with Children shelter, who gave them each a big, thankful hug.
