W&J hires volleyball coach

Lindsey Llewellyn has been hired as the head women’s volleyball coach at Washington & Jefferson.

“Lindsey impressed us during the interview process with her ideas and vision for the future of W&J volleyball,” athletic director Scott McGuinness said. “She is excited to start working with our team this spring with the primary goal of creating a positive student-athlete experience for the members of this program. We welcome Lindsey to W&J and can’t wait to watch our team flourish under her leadership.”

Llewellyn comes to W&J after spending the past two years as a graduate assistant at West Liberty University.

Llewellyn is no stranger to the Presidents’ Athletic Conference as she was an All-PAC outside hitter at Bethany. Llewellyn was a four-year letterwinner who played for a pair of PAC Championship squads.

Max Ivcic (113), Chris Vargo (120), Maxx Weisher (160), Vitali Daniels (215) and Alex Rusilko each won by fall for the Bearcats.

Luke Hollywood (145) and Jermaine Wood (172) each had a pin for Avonworth.

All USFL games set for Birmingham

The newly re-formed USFL will play every game in the same city during its inaugural season.

The eight-team professional football league owned by Fox Sports will debut on April 16 with the Birmingham Stallions against the New Jersey Generals. All the games will be in Birmingham, Alabama.

The game will be aired on both Fox and NBC, making it the first scheduled sporting event to air on competing broadcast networks since both CBS and NBC televised Super Bowl I in 1967.

From 1983-85, the original USFL played spring league games before folding.

“The first game played in any new league is itself historical and having the USFL’s inaugural game simulcast by NBC and Fox makes it even more so,” said Eric Shanks, Fox Sports CEO and Executive Producer. “It’s rare when two competitors can come together and see how cooperation can lead to long-term benefit.”

Most games will be at Protective Stadium, the 45,000-seat home to UAB games since opening in October. Others will be played at Legion Field.

In hockey

Tyler Ennis had a hat trick to lead the Ottawa Senators to a 5-0 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday night.

Drake Batherson and Alex Formenton also scored for Ottawa, while Matt Murray made 32 saves for his third win of the season and 14th career shutout.

In the NBA

LeBron James welcomed Anthony Davis back with a lob pass for the game’s first basket, then turned to his own offense to score 33 points in the Los Angeles Lakers’ 106-96 victory over the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday night.

Davis had eight points in 25 minutes after missing 17 games with a sprained left knee and the Lakers got good nights off the bench from Malik Monk and Carmelo Anthony.

  • Jayson Tatum scored 36 points and Jaylen Brown had 30 points and 10 rebounds before both rested the entire fourth quarter as the Boston Celtics routed the Sacramento Kings, 128-75.
  • Pascal Siakam had 24 points and matched his career high with 12 assists, Gary Trent Jr. scored a season-best 32 and the Toronto Raptors never trailed in a 125-113 victory over the Charlotte Hornets.
