Brian Sells of Bridgeville had a hole-in-one Thursday at Lone Pine Country Club. Sells aced the 180-yard No. 2 hole by using a 7-iron. His playing partner was Steve Ricker.

1949 – Cincinnati left fielder Eddie Lukon of Burgettstown hits two home runs and drives in five runs as the Reds defeat the Chicago Cubs 6-2 at Wrigley Field.
1959 – At Pittsburgh’s Forbes Field, Los Angeles’ Don Drysdale pitches three perfect innings and Eddie Matthews homers as the National League edges the American League 5-4 in the first of two all-star games played that year.
1981 – Defensive end Keith Gary, the Pittsburgh Steelers first-round draft pick, signs a two-year contract with the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League.
1982 – The Pittsburgh Steelers lose assistant head coach George Perles to the rival United States Football League only two weeks before the start of training camp. Perles is named head coach of the USFL’s Philadelphia Stars.
