cording to RESA Regional Police Officer Anthony Mosco, the pedestrian was walking along the tracks headed northbound when she was struck by a southbound train traveling at a speed of less than 40 mph.

“She was walking on the outside of the tracks and the train was whistling, but apparently she didn’t hear it,” Mosco said. “It appears she got hit by the side of the train”

Mosco was the first officer dispatched to the scene at approximately 6:20 p.m. and was met shortly after by RESA Officer-in-Charge Chief Mark Stewart, numerous ambulance and fire units.

The pedestrian arrived at a Pittsburgh area hospital within an hour, Mosco said.

Her condition was unavailable at press time.

After the woman was flown by helicopter, investigators arrived at the scene, but it is not known whether they will investigate the incident further.

Railroad crossings in the Elco area were closed as of 7 p.m. Wednesday, with the exception of the Locust Street Crossing in Stockdale.
