1968 – Canon-McMillan takes advantage of a passed ball and error to score the winning run in the eighth inning and defeat Sto-Rox 4-3 in a WPIAl baseball playoff game at Mt. Lebanon. Winning pitcher Tom Corcoran throws a four-hitter and scores the game-winning run.
1972 – Gene Alley’s bases-loaded walk gives the Pittsburgh Pirates a 1-0 victory in 18 innings over the San Diego Padres.
1984 – Brian Konick hits a home run and California scores seven runs in the fourth inning of a 13-3 victory over Quaker Valley in the second round of the PIAA Class AA baseball playoffs.
1988 – Chartiers-Houston scores seven runs in the first inning and cruises to a 12-0 victory over Southern Huntingdon in the first round of the PIAA Class AA softball playoffs at Ringgold High School.
1999 – Jeremy Gayman hits a two-run homer in the first inning and Derek Fritz throws five shutout innings as Waynesburg defeats Northern Cambria 12-2 in the first round of the PIAA Class AA baseball playoffs at Haymaker Park in Murraysville. It is the first PIAA baseball playoff game in Waynesburg’s history.
2012 – Waynesburg’s Coleman Scott clinches a spot on the United States Olympic freestyle wrestling team at 132 pounds by winning a best-of-3 wrestleoff against Shawn Burch in Manhattan. In the decisive bout, Scott wins with a five-point throw.
2012 – Chartiers-Houston catcher Colby Miller throws out Saegertown’s Rachel DeBartolomeo, who was trying to advance to third base on a throw to home plate, for the final out in the Bucs’ 4-3 victory in the PIAA Class A softball semifinals at North Allegheny.
2017 – West Greene turned a triple play and blasted back-to-back home runs to open the PIAA Class A softball playoffs with a 10-0 win over Shanksville-Stonycreek. West Greene (23-1) was leading 7-0 after four innings, but Shanksville-Stonycreek threatened in the top of the fifth. Alyssa Platt singled to open the inning and Alyssa Custer walked on four pitches. Lynn Brewer entered the game as a pinch-hitter and lined to West Greene first baseman Lexie Mooney. Mooney stepped on first to get Custer for the second out and threw to shortstop Madison Renner to complete the triple play.
