May 13

1952 – Monongahela native Ron Neccai pitches one of the greatest games in baseball history. Playing for the Bristol Twins of the Class D Appalachian League, Neccai throws a no-hitter with 27 strikeouts against the Welch Miners. In his next start, Neccai strikes out 24 batters.

1952 – Third baseman Eddie Kazak of Muse is traded by the St. Louis Cardinals along with Wally Westlake to the Cincinnati Reds for Dick Sisler and Virgil Stallcup.

1957 – A home run by pitcher John Dunn with two outs in the top of the seventh inning gives Burgettstown Union a 5-4 win over Avella in a tiebreaker game for the Section 2 title.

1958 – Stan Musial gets his 3,000th hit with a pinch-hit double off Chicago’s Moe Drabowsky at Wrigley Field. The Cardinals win, 5-3. Musial is the eighth player in major league history with 3,000 or more hits.

1981 – Carmichaels’ Bob Phillips pitches a three-hitter and strikes out 17 to improve his record to 8-1 as the Mikes defeat California, 4-1.

1985 – Terry Dalverny pitches the second no-hitter in Fort Cherry High School baseball history. Dalverny strikes out three as the Rangers defeat Immaculate Conception, 12-0.

1986 – Beth-Center’s Ron Brown wins the triple jump at the WPIAL Class AA Track & Field Championships at Neshannock High School. Brown wins with a school-record leap of 44-9. Washington’s Nikki Holmes wins the girls shot put with a throw of 39-5 1/2.

1992 – Rick Tocchet scores two goals and Tom Barrasso stops 33 shots as the Pittsburgh Penguins defeat the New York Rangers 5-1 to win the Patrick Division playoff series.

2005 – Tiger Woods misses the cut at the Byron Nelson Championship to end his record of 142 consecutive cuts made over the last seven years on the PGA Tour. Needing a par on the 18th hole at Cottonwood Valley, Woods misses a 15-foot putt. He taps in for a bogey and a 2-over 72, leaving him at one over for the tournament.
