1968 – Pittsburgh’s Roy Jefferson catches 11 passes for 199 yards and four touchdowns as the Steelers defeat the Atlanta Falcons, 41-21. Jefferson’s touchdowns were on throws of 27, 61 and nine yards from Dick Shiner and 38 yards from Kent Nix.
1984 – Washington & Jefferson builds a 23-point first-quarter lead and cruises to a 37-7 romp over Grove City to win the Presidents’ Athletic Conference football championship. Freshman tailback A.J. Pagano rushes for 201 yards and three touchdowns. It’s W&J’s first eight-win season since 1921.
1987 – Luke Paglia scores on a penalty kick with nine minutes left and Charleroi knocks off previously undefeated Sewickley Academy 1-0 in the WPIAL Class AA boys soccer semifinals at Mt. Lebanon.
1989 – Brian Jamison catches two touchdown passes from Rob Keys and runs 29 yards for a score as Jefferson-Morgan defeats Carmichaels 47-6 to secure the Rockets’ first undefeated regular season since 1974.
1989 – A one-win Burgettstown team stops undefeated Washington’s two-point conversion with 47 seconds remaining to defeat the Prexies 28-27 at Wash High Stadium. Burgettstown overcomes an early 14-0 deficit.
1995 – Aaron Gatten rushes for 169 yards and four touchdowns as Washington High School caps its eighth undefeated and untied regular season with a 40-6 victory over Burgettstown.
2007 – Washington & Jefferson scores 14 points in each of the first three quarters, forces four turnovers and Curt Jones runs for 153 yards and two scores as the Presidents clinch the PAC championship by defeating host Thomas More 42-0.
2012 – Canon-McMillan, the No. 13 seed, caps an unlikely run through the WPIAL Class 3A boys soccer playoffs with a 1-0 victory over second-seeded Upper St. Clair in the championship game. Josh Kruczek scores the game’s only goal in the 26th minute.
2012 – Striker Veronica Latsko heads a corner kick by Rachel Troscinski into the net with 27 seconds remaining, giving Peters Township a 2-1 victory over Seneca Valley in the WPIAL Class AAA girls soccer championship game at Elizabeth Forward.
