What does it mean to you to have a chance to speak at this ceremony? It is a tremendous honor to be asked to speak in my local area about women in military service and the impact of our contributions in carrying out our national security objectives. What did your military career mean to you?I always wanted to be a navy nurse, largely influence by my father who served in the navy and though worked for U.S. Steel for 3 decades, he instilled a sense of national pride, respect and the desire to serve our country. My military career was amazing. Through service, and being pushed to grow in many ways – I have acheived and exceeded my personal and professional goals through education and leadership opportunities, and now continue service as a full professor at Pitt – sharing my clinical and leadership experiences with future generations of nursing profesionals and leaders.
