1956 – Larry Ellsworth’s one-yard touchdown run and Ben Rapchak’s 26-yard scoring jaunt keep Carmichaels High School’s football team undefeated as the Mikes edge Waynesburg 12-7.
1968 – James (Rab) Currie, Frank Wolf, Jack Wiley, Mark Booth, John Conklin, Harry McHenry and Dick Toline are inducted as the inaugural class of the Waynesburg College Sports Hall of Fame.
1998 – Trinity’s Ben Junko becomes the first person to win four Washington County Coaches Cross Country Meet championships.
1999 – The undefeated (7-0) Washington High School football team climbs to the No. 1 spot in Class AA in the Harrisburg Patriot-News statewide football rankings.
2002 – Avon Cobourne becomes the fifth Division I-A rusher with four 1,000-yard seasons as West Virginia beats Syracuse 34-7. Cobourne has 108 yards in the game and 1,002 for the season.
