Cole Jaworowski passed for two touchdowns and ran for another, and Avella held Carlynton scoreless in the second half as the Eagles picked up their first victory of the season, 22-14, in a non-conference game Friday night.

Avella (1-5) trailed 14-7 before Jaworowski threw a 27-yard TD pass to Cole Jaworowski with 59 seconds left in the first half that pulled the Eagles to within 14-13 and changed the game’s momentum.

Avella took the lead when Brian Humensky booted a 20-yard field goal that put the Eagles on top, 16-14, in the third quarter.

The Eagles wrapped up the win in the fourth quarter when Cole Jaworowski threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Nate Rankin with 8:33 remaining. The score was set up an interception by Broden Hamm.

Cole Jaworowski opened the scoring with a one-yard plunge in the first quarter, but Carlynton (0-6) battled and took the lead on two long TD runs, covering 60 and 89 yards.

Washington 59, Waynesburg 14

Washington spread the scoring around on the way to a 59-14 victory over Waynesburg in the Class 2A Interstate Conference.

The Prexies moved to 2-0 in the conference and 5-1 overall. Waynesburg fell to 0-3 in the conference and 0-6 overall. This was the Raiders ninth consecutive loss.

Zach Welsh opened the scoring with a 48-yard run. Carlos Harper got the Prexies defense involved when he returned a fumble 39 yards for a TD.

Eddie Lewis was next, breaking off a 29-yard scoring run. Quarterback Davoun Fuse threw two touchdowns in the first half, hitting Zxavian Willis for a 51-yard score and Reuben Gordon from nine yards out.

Lewis scored his second TD of the game on a 53-yard run. It came right after a Brenden Sibert 43-yard scoring run.

Lewis would add a third score, this one from 29 yards to end the third quarter.

Chase Fox and Breydon Woods score on runs for Waynesburg.

Jefferson-Morgan 28, Bentworth 25

Cole Jones threw three touchdown passes in the first half and the Rockets held off a fourth-quarter charge by Bentworth to edge the Bearcats 28-25 in the Class A Tri-County South Conference.

Jefferson-Morgan (2-1, 4-2) scored 22 points in the second quarter to take a 28-10 lead at halftime. Jones three three TD passes in the quarter, covering 35, 32 and 12 yards, all to Hunter Guesman.

Jones completed 10 of 23 passes for 170 yards, which gives him 3,045 career passing yards.

Bentworth’s Benjamin Hays returned a J-M fumble 65 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter that pulled the Bearcats (0-3, 2-4) to within 22-10.

Vitali Daniels threw two fourth-quarter TD passes, one to Lucas Burt and the other to Hays to trim J-M’s lead to 28-25 with 1:55 remaining, but the Rockets recovered the enusing onside kickoff and ran out the clock.

Anthony Puckey booted a 27-yard field goal for Bentworth early in the second quarter. J-M’s Johnny Gilbert opened the scoring with a four-yard touchdown run.

South Fayette 49, Moon 14

Six different players scored a touchdown as South Fayette clobbered Moon, 49-14, in a Class 5A Allegheny Six Conference game.

The win moves South Fayette to 1-1 in the conference and 3-3 overall. Moon falls to 0-1 in the conference and 0-6 overall.

Nico Lamonde threw for three touchdowns and ran for another as the Lions started the Mercy Rule in the third quart by taking a 42-0 lead. Lamonde hit Aiden Martincic from 44 yards out to start the scoring. He also hit Nate Deanes with a 5-yard scoring toss and Wesmyn Wright from 10 yards out just before halftime. Lamonde ran one in from 40 yards out.

Christian Brandi scored from one-yard out and Aaron Mathias returned a fumble for a touchdown.

Moon scored two second half touchdowns, one from Joey Marasco and the other by Brandon Weaver.

OLSH 45, Chartiers-Houston 0

Nehemiah Azeem passed for 284 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another score, powering undefeated OLSH past Chartiers-Houston 45-0 in a Class A Black Hills Conference game.

OLSH (3-0, 6-0) led by only 3-0 after one quarter before erupting for 21 points in the second quarter and another 14 in the third. Azeem threw TD passes of 60 and 69 yards to Dereon Greer in the second quarter and ran 11 yards for another score that made it 24-0 at halftime.

OLSH scored twice in the third quarter with both coming on fumble returns, covering 33 and 38 yards.

Brandon Brazell capped the scoring with a 25-yard scamper in the fourth quarter.

Chartiers-Houston (0-3, 3-3) was outgained 358-98.

In other games

Peters Township bounced back from its first loss last week with a 50-13 thumping of visiting Baldwin in the Class 5A Allegheny Six Conference.

Undefeated McKeesport was a 42-0 winner over Ringgold in the Class 4A Big Seven Conference.

Belle Vernon opened Class 3A Interstate Conference play with a 50-0 thumping of South Allegheny.

Keystone Oaks rolled to a 42-0 win over Charleroi in the Class 2A Century Conference.

Bishop Canevin stayed unbeaten in the Class A Black Hills Conference with a 60-7 win at Fort Cherry.

West Greene won a shootout over visiting West Greene, 62-25, to stay unbeaten in Class A Tri-County South Conference play. Also in the TCS, Carmichaels was a 35-8 winner at Beth-Center.
