1982 – Casmir Myslinski retires after 13 years as athletic director at the University of Pittsburgh.
1986 – Trinity High School’s boys track team gets a win in the 1,600-meter relay – the final event in the dual meet – to edge McGuffey 71-70 and finish the Division 2, Section 6 schedule undefeated. Pete Magnotta, Ken Myers, Rodney Long and Paul Knizner win the relay in 3:47.4.
1988 – Sherrie MacKinney, a Trinity High School graduate and a senior at North Carolina, wins the women’s javelin competition at the Penn Relays with a throw of 171-1.
1996 – The Pittsburgh Penguins score three goals – by Mario Lemieux, Jaromir Jagr and Ron Francis – in the first 12:24 and defeat the Washington Capitals 3-2 in Game 7 of an Eastern Conference playoff series.
2012 – Bentworth remained undefeated and moved closer to the Section 2-A championship by defeating defending state champion Serra Catholic, 11-2. Adam Bell homered and drove in four runs for the Bearcats.
2018 – University of Pennsylvania wide receiver Justin Watson, a South Fayette graduate, is drafted in the fifth round by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
