Bryce Harper hit an inside-the-park home run, three Philadelphia teammates went deep and Aaron Nola pitched seven strong innings to lead the Phillies to a 10-4 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Monday night in a matchup of teams leading the National League wild-card race.

Kyle Schwarber, Alec Bohm and Edmundo Sosa also homered for the Phillies, who moved three games ahead of the Giants in the wild-card standings.

LaMonte Wade Jr. and Joc Pederson homered for the Giants, who have lost four of five and 11 of 15.

San Francisco began play 1½ games ahead of three fourth-placed teams in the race for wild-card spots. Arizona, Cincinnati and Miami entered Monday chasing a playoff spot with 64-61 marks.

Nola (11-8) was hit hard early before settling down. He wound up allowing two runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and a walk.

Harper electrified the crowd of 36,274 in the fifth inning. His drive off Sean Hjelle caromed hard off the wall in left-center. When center fielder Wade Meckler finally chased down the ball in right-center, he twice failed to pick it up before throwing it toward home. It likely would’ve taken a perfect toss and relay to nab the speedy Harper.

Dodger Stadium not flooded: A viral aerial video of Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium has many social media users convinced that floodwaters submerged the ballpark over the weekend amid Tropical Storm Hilary.

“Dodger Stadium flooded in Los Angeles after Tropical Storm Hilary slams California,” reads one popular post on X, formerly known as Twitter, alongside a still from the footage appearing to show the stadium surrounded by water. “Dodger Stadium is an island,” said another.

But the team says the stadium, which is built into a hill, was never under water – and the apparent flood in the video is just an optical illusion.

The stadium was not flooded, Steve Brener, a spokesperson for the Dodgers, told the Associated Press. The team also posted a picture online of the parking lot looking dry on Monday.

Mariners activate Crawford: J.P. Crawford drove his wife crazy while he was sidelined by a concussion. He watched Seattle Mariners games, and yelled at the television.

“She’s probably happy I’m out of the house, too,” he cracked.

Crawford is back with the Mariners after he was activated from the seven-day injured list on Monday. He got the start at shortstop and hit in the leadoff spot for the opener of a three-game series at the Chicago White Sox.

Seattle also placed right-hander Emerson Hancock on the 15-day IL with a right shoulder strain. Right-hander Darren McCaughan was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma, and utilityman Sam Haggerty was sent down.

Chicago Cubs 6, Detroit 5: Yan Gomes and Nick Madrigal hit doubles in the ninth inning and the Chicago Cubs held on to beat the Detroit Tigers 7-6 on Monday night.

The Cubs squandered a three-run lead in the eighth and quickly went back ahead.

Gomes led off the next inning with a double and Madrigal followed with an RBI double. Madrigal later scored to put Chicago ahead by two, an extra run it needed after Matt Vierling’s single pulled Detroit within a run.

Seiya Suzuki hit a homer for the second straight day and a three-run second inning helped the Cubs take an early lead. They went on to earn a third victory in a row, keeping their lead for the NL’s final wild card.

Daniel Palencia (3-0) retired two batters and stranded two runners in the eighth to keep the score tied after Michael Fulmer gave up three runs in the inning against his former team. Mark Leiter Jr. pitched the ninth for his fourth save in six chances.

Beau Brieske (0-1) allowed two runs on three hits in the ninth.

Cincinnati-L.A. Angels postponed: The Los Angeles Angels’ game against the Cincinnati Reds scheduled for Monday night has been postponed due to the effects of Tropical Storm Hilary.

The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader Wednesday.

Southern California’s first tropical storm in 84 years dropped several inches of rain across the Los Angeles area on Sunday. The rain had stopped by Monday morning, but Angel Stadium was too wet to play, according to the Angels.

The Angels already had moved up their game scheduled for Sunday against Tampa Bay to a Saturday doubleheader.

The rainout is just the fourth since 1995 at Angel Stadium, counting the game that was moved from Sunday to Saturday.

Only 14 games have been moved by rain in the history of the Big A.
