The Steelers traded guard Kendrick Green on Tuesday to Houston in exchange for the Texans’ sixth-round selection in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Pittsburgh selected Green in the third round of the 2021 draft as the 87th overall pick. He started 15 games as a rookie and was the first rookie to start at center since Maurkice Pouncey in 2010.

Green didn’t play in the last two games of the regular season or the Wild Card game as his first year concluded. He didn’t see any action last year, as he was a game day inactive for most of the season.

Green wasn’t the only Steeler to say goodbye Tuesday, as veteran tight end Zach Gentry was cut. Gentry was selected by Pittsburgh in the fifth round of the 2019 draft out of Michigan. He played 40 games, started 26, and had 39 career reception for 303 yards in Pittsburgh.

Safety Tre Norwood and defensive lineman Breiden Fehoko were also let go Tuesday as the team needed to cut its roster to the allowed maximum of 53 players.

Cornerbacks Luq Barcoo and Chris Wilcox, defensive back Trenton Thompson, running backs Greg Bell and Xazavian Valladay, receivers Jordan Byrd and Dez Fitzpatrick, linebackers Nick Kwiatkoski, David Perales and Quincy Roche, offensive lineman Ryan McCollum, defensive lineman Jonathan Mitchell and tight end Rodney Williams were all released Tuesday.

The Steelers open the regular season Sept. 10 when they host San Francisco at Acrisure Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
