Big Macs drop BP

Canon-McMillan won all but two bouts in taking a 55-11 victory over Bethel Park in a Class 3A Section 6 dual meet Monday night.

The win moves Canon-McMillan to 4-0 in the section and a win over Peters Township from wrapping up the section title and most likely a top seed in the WPIAL Team Tournament.

Notching pins for the Big Macs were Tanner Mizenko (107), Collier Hartman (114), Brandon Dami (121), Andrew Binni (127), and Gabe Stafford (189).

Dheyaa Danyan (152) won by fall for Bethel Park.

In the NBA

The Los Angeles Lakers acquired former lottery pick Rui Hachimura from the Washington Wizards on Monday in exchange for Kendrick Nunn and a package of second-round draft picks.

Hachimura and the Wizards did not agree on a rookie extension before the season started, which prompted speculation that the Japanese power forward wouldn’t be in their long-term plans.

And it makes sense for the Lakers to be seeking help. At 22-25, they’re in 12th place in the Western Conference, but entered Monday just two games behind the Los Angeles Clippers for the No. 6 spot and four games back of the New Orleans Pelicans for No. 4 in the West – with LeBron James averaging nearly 30 points per game and a belief that Anthony Davis will be back from injury sooner than later.

In golf

The second year of Saudi-funded LIV Golf will be going to three courses owned by former President Donald Trump as part of a 14-event schedule in 2023, according to a report from SI.com.

The report said LIV Golf announced its schedule, although the LIV website only said that a full schedule was coming soon. The rival league previously said it would open its season Feb. 24-26 at the Mexican golf resort of Mayakoba, which formerly hosted a PGA Tour stop.

LIV Golf previously had announced seven sites, including four that previously were used on the PGA Tour or European tour – Mayakoba, The Gallery at Dove Mountain north of Tucson, Arizona; The Greenbrier in West Virginia; and Valderrama in Spain.

The full schedule, according to SI.com, includes Trump National in northern Virginia (May 26-28), Trump National in Bedminster, New Jersey (Aug. 11-13), and Trump National Doral near Miami (Oct. 20-22).

In the NHL

The season is over for Ottawa Senators forward Josh Norris.

General manager Pierre Dorion said Monday that Norris will undergo shoulder surgery and miss the rest of the 2022-23 season.

• Mika Zibanejad scored twice and Igor Shesterkin stopped 33 shots as the New York Rangers beat the Florida Panthers 6-2 Monday night.

In the NFL

The Carolina Panthers interviewed Sean Payton for their coaching vacancy on Monday.

Panthers owner David Tepper has also interviewed Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen, Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey, New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka, former Indianapolis Colts head coach Frank Reich, Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero, former Detroit Lions and Colts head coach Jim Caldwell and Steve Wilks, who was the team’s interim head coach this season, for the job.

In college basketball

Grant Basile scored 15 of his 24 points in the second half, Sean Pedulla had 16 points and five assists and Virginia Tech beat Duke 78-75 Monday night to snap a seven-game losing streak.
