1950 – Washington & Jefferson College announces it will play two home football games at night – against Case and Bucknell – during the 1950 season. They are the first home night games in school history.
1951 – Jersey Joe Walcott, at 37, becomes the oldest fighter to win the world heavyweight title with a seventh-round knockout of Ezzard Charles before 25,000 at Forbes Field.
1967 – The Pittsburgh Pirates fire manager Harry Walker and replace him with Danny Murtaugh.
1979 – Larry Marshall submits his resignation after four seasons as Trinity High School’s boys basketball coach.
