1957 – Pitt’s Tom Alberts, a Waynesburg High School graduate, decisions Waynesburg College’s Ralph Schnieder, 8-5, to win the 167-pound title at the NCAA Wrestling Championships.
1966 – Carl DePasqua, backfield coach at Pitt since 1953, is hired as head football coach at Waynesburg College.
1970 – Kentucky’s Dan Issel scores 51 points, but Pittsburgh’s John Brisker’s has 42 and leads the Condors to a 149-132 victory in an ABA game at the Civic Arena.
1987 – Keith Smart’s 16-foot jump shot gives Indiana a 74-73 victory over Syracuse for the NCAA men’s basketball championship.
1999 – McGuffey freshman and PIAA champion Jeff Breese is named the Observer-Reporter’s Wrestler of the Year.
2012 – Tray Woodall scores 17 points and Pitt defeats Washington State 71-65 to win the College Basketball Invitational championship.
